Repair Summer Wear & Tear on Your Hair

Summer brings the sizzling sun, tons of salt water and chlorine from our favorite pools and beaches, and the frequent use of hot styling tools which leaves our hair in need of some major T.L.C.  Umberto has just the cure with the UMBERTO Beverly Hills Collagen Pre-Shampoo Treatment, which is uniquely formulated to restore and maintain your hair's health with essential ingredients like Jojoba and proteins.

Instead of applying hair treatments after you shampoo and condition, Umberto strongly believes in the reverse routine. With Umberto's Collagen Pre Shampoo Treatment the collagen is applied to dry hair prior to shampooing. Dry hair ensures the absence of water in and around the cuticle, allowing the collagen to fill the cuticle and begin its job - repairing the hair from the inside-out. Umberto recommends leaving the product in for 10 minutes and then rinsing, shampooing and conditioning as usual. When used once a week for a month your hair’s shine will be restored and will feel exceptionally smooth and silky.

This treatment, coupled with the UMBERTO Beverly Hills Repair Shampoo, Conditioner and Repair Treatment Masque regiment will make a world of difference in your hair's health.  These products are sulfate free and packed with Jojoba, Amino Acids and other Proteins that not only smooth, restore, and add shine to you hair, but also provide color and sun protection for guaranteed ongoing hair health.

Your Own Fall Harvest
Healthy Food for Healthy HairWhile we say, “Bye-bye” to some of the sweet foods of the summer, we start saying, “Hello!” to a refreshing and earthy variety of fall food favorites. Make savory and sweet seasonal recipes with the fall harvest including sweet potatoes, pears, Brussel sprouts, and Chanterelle and oyster mushrooms! We have some tips for how to store these produce to ensure that whatever you make this august is as fresh as it can be!

Pears: Choose hard pears and leave on a counter to ripen. A pear ripens from inside out, so check for ripeness at the thinner stem end. Once completely ripe, transfer pears to the refrigerator and use within two to three days.

Sweet Potatoes: Keep sweet potatoes loose in a cool, dark place for up to one month. They should never be kept in the refrigerator, as their natural sugars will convert to starch, making them less sweet.

Brussel Sprouts: Store unwashed Brussels sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use within three or four days.

Mushrooms: Refrigerate loose mushrooms (unrinsed) in a paper bag, and containers of mushrooms in their original package. Use within a few days of purchase.

What to Know About H2O
August may be the last full month of summer with shorter days but the heat it still blistering and water is more important than ever to maintain a healthy you. This month is also one of the busiest months and it’s easy to forget about the little, but essential, things like water! So here are some facts about water that you can gulp down.
·
Water
How much fluid should I drink every day? You've probably heard you should have eight glasses daily, but it turns out that's a little low. A good baseline is about 9 cups of fluid a day. You may need even more if you're overweight, live at a high altitude or are working in extremely hot weather, all of which are dehydrating factors.

·         Does my daily morning coffee count? Surprise: It does, per a new study from the University of Birmingham in England. Researchers asked java drinkers to sip either coffee or water and found that caffeine isn't dehydrating. There's a caveat, though. If you never drink caffeine and then have a cup of coffee, it acts as a diuretic and draws water from your body. What to avoid? Soft drinks, even diet kinds because they contain salt, which dehydrates you.

·      Don’t I have to drink more when I exercise? If you'll be indoors and have managed to stay hydrated all day before the workout, then no. But if you're in the summer heat, you can easily sweat out the equivalent of 4 cups of fluid in an hour-long outdoor session. In that case, drink 20 ounces of water an hour before, and try to take in about one half of a cup during every 15 minutes of activity. Going for a jog first thing in the morning? Have a drink beforehand.
