E-commerce China Equity Cap Change

According to HKTDC, China has made an important move in regard to e-commerce.  We are not yet certain the full effect on clothing store e-commerce.
China has just announced its decision to lift foreign equity ratio restrictions on online data processing and transaction processing businesses. This means that such businesses can now be 100% foreign-owned. These measures were introduced with immediate effect.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the change in a circular issued on 19 June 2015. According to the statement, the move has been made in order to support the development of e-commerce, encourage and guide the active participation of foreign investment and further stimulate market competition. The decision to remove foreign equity restrictions on online data processing and transaction processing (operating e-commerce) businesses across the country follows trials in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

TPA Fast Track on Free-Trade

On June 23, 2015 the Senate adopted a law giving President Obama the power to “fast-track” talks on free-trade pacts such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) after months of fierce debate in both houses of the Congress.  The trade bill advanced 60-37, with the minimum votes needed to break a Democratic-led filibuster against the so-called Trade Promotion Authority. Thirteen Democrats sided with GOP leaders on the vote, and five Republicans

Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), as the measure is called, means that Congress will only get to vote up or down on the treaties in question once they are finalized by the White House, without the ability to offer amendments.

On April 16, 2015 The United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) applauded the introduction of the bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation, Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015.  They pointed out, that the passage of TPA will allow the Obama Administration to conclude the TPP, a potentially groundbreaking agreement for fashion brands and retailers doing business in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as create ambitious trade policy for the future, such as the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP), a historic trade negotiation with Europe.  Read more about the The United States Fashion Industry Associations thoughts on TPA.

Learn more about government issues relevant to the fashion industry here on Apparel Search.

Historical reference:

The fast track negotiating authority for trade agreements is the authority of the President of the United States to negotiate international agreements that Congress can approve or disapprove but cannot amend or filibuster. Also called trade promotion authority (TPA) since 2002, fast track negotiating authority is a temporary and controversial power granted to the President by Congress. The authority was in effect from 1975 to 1994, pursuant to the Trade Act of 1974, and from 2002 to 2007 by the Trade Act of 2002. Although it expired for new agreements on July 1, 2007, it continued to apply to agreements already under negotiation until they were eventually passed into law in 2011.  In 2012, the Obama administration began seeking renewal of the authority.

You may also have interest in learning about the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP).

How does this affect the USA apparel industry?

According to the Trade Promotion Authority website (June 2015), “We know that exports support American jobs.  And we know that U.S. trade agreements sustain those job-supporting exports:  our agreements with just 20 partners support 46 percent of our country’s goods exports overall.   In fact, exports accounted for a third of U.S. growth since 2009.  The trade agreements we’re working on right now – T-TIP and TPP – account for 65 percent of the world’s goods and services trade and would account for 69 percent of U.S. goods exports.  TPA will help to get those agreements in force and support American jobs.”  That sounds like it is good for USA clothing factories.

If you know more information on this subject you are welcome to share your thoughts in the comment area below.  We would be happy to hear why you like or dislike the trade bill.

Waikiki Trade Center is on the corner of Kuhio Avenue and Seaside Avenue, near the redeveloped International Marketplace, which will be anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, set to open in summer 2016.

When it opens, it will be the second Nordstrom Rack in Honolulu joining Ward Village Shops. Coats Group plc, the world’s leading industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business, has opened the day’s trading on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.  Today’s London Stock Exchange Market Open Ceremony celebrates Coats’ return to the market in the 125th anniversary year of its initial listing on the London Stock Exchange.

The ceremony was attended by Chairman, Mike Clasper; Group Chief Executive Paul Forman and other members of the Coats Board, management, employees and advisers.

Mike Clasper, Chairman, Coats Group plc, said: ‘Coats is a world class manufacturing business with a rich heritage that dates back to the 1750s.  The business has successfully reinvented itself over the last decade in order to meet the changing needs of our customers and consumer demand.  Returning to the market under our own name during the 125th anniversary year of our initial listing on the London Stock Exchange is worthy of celebration and participating in today’s Market Open Ceremony is a wonderful way to do that.’

After first listing in 1890, and also being a founding member of the FT30 index created in 1935, Coats was taken private in 2003.  In February 2015, GPG Group plc, Coat’s owner, released its preliminary financial results for 2014 which included the announcement that Coats was being established as the standalone, listed entity.

10 beauty tips for 50+ women

There are many women out there, who believe that life comes to a halt with old age. The life becomes boring with nothing to do and even, many stops caring about themselves. Therefore, this article is for those women who have lost somewhere the spice of their life. Life at 50 means, it is the right time to pamper yourself and fight against the aging process. This is the time to celebrate womanhood. It has been said that with growing age, the elegance and grace of the woman increases. So why not try to increase her beauty too. So here, I am sharing 9 simple steps, which can be followed to look and feel better at this age.
Beauty Tips for women 50 and over

Get enough sleep

This is the time when you are loaded with responsibilities like taking care of your home, looking after your hubby, baby-sitting your grandchildren, etc. In midst of these, many women forget to take care of one’s self. Therefore, it is necessary to sleep well. This will make you look fresh and energetic.

Go for Retinol treatments

Retinol treatments will help to reduce those wrinkle lines around your eyes and your plump skin. So go to the shop, ask for the products with Retinol, and start treating yourself. You can even ask for the same from a dermatologist.
Start using Mascara

With age come wrinkles. Now this wrinkles pop up near your eyes and eyelids. By applying mascara, your eyes will look brighter, hiding all those wrinkle lines.

Go down with foundation and concealer
Beauty Tips for women 50 and older

It is recommended to use fewer amounts of foundation and concealer on the face, as they have a negative effect on the skin. You may look more aged with these products. Therefore, it is better to start using moisturizer and other light base products. Feel free to use money saving coupons from Dealslands UK to get attractive discount so that you don't hesitate while buying. You can even use a small amount of concealer to hide the dark spots. In case you are using a foundation, make sure you use the hypoallergenic versions, as you will have sensitive skin now.

There are women who love to have tanned body, as it gives out an even skin tone. At this age, it is better to avoid going in direct sunlight, as the harmful UV rays may badly affect your skin. You can better opt for spray options, as they can be safe to use.

Give yourself a better time

Go to a spa for a good spa treatment or get a facial or a pedicure and manicure done. In short, spend some time for yourself. In case you are getting ready for any function, you can really take the help of a professional person.

Do things you love

In case you love to have a haircut, then just do that, as that will give you the feeling of best. There is no harm is spending a little on things that will make you happy.

Embrace yourself

Many a times, we have the habit to look in our photos, and start comparing ourselves with our past looks. This is wrong. You must understand that you are not young anymore and you have lived a full-fledged life now. So accept your present looks and embrace yourself.

Dress your way

Whenever you go out, try out some new dress, that you have always thought about to wear. Give importance to your choices and your own way. Don’t think too much whether people will like that or not.

Just remember one thing that old age is an inevitable part of our life. When we get older, it is natural to get grey hair and wrinkled skin. So instead of feeling bad about our looks, feel graceful and accept the beauty of nature.

Dwyane Wade Naked Brand Campaign

Wade Enterprises, LLC and Naked Brand Group, Inc. on June 18, 2015 announced a partnership between NBA Miami HEAT star Dwyane Wade and Naked, the innovative inner fashion and lifestyle brand. The 3-time NBA Champion, 11-time All Star and Olympic Gold Medalist will spearhead Naked's "Role Models" campaign, join the Company's Advisory Board and serve as Creative Director for a signature collection of innerwear set to launch in 2016.

One of Wade's first initiatives with Naked will be to help launch Naked's "Role Models" campaign during summer 2015. "Naked is all about people writing their own story and being free to be themselves. We plan to build awareness and enthusiasm for Naked and our brand philosophy by sharing and celebrating the stories of men and women who live inspiring and authentic lives," says Joel Primus, Founder and President of Naked. "As a father, athlete and champion, whose personal motto is 'Make Your Own Way,' Dwyane is a true role model and the perfect partner for Naked."

In 2016, Naked and Wade will launch a Wade signature collection of innerwear for men and boys.  In his role as Creative Director for this product line, Wade will work closely with Carole Hochman and her design and development team to create a collection with broad global consumer appeal. "I am eager to work with Naked to design a collection that offers standout style and comfort," said Wade.

Wade's collaboration and endorsement agreement with Naked, which includes license to Dwyane Wade's name, image and other intellectual property, is multi-year, worldwide and exclusive in the category of Innerwear (underwear, undershirts, loungewear, sleepwear and robes).

As part of this collaboration, Wade will also join Naked's advisory board, specifically focusing on helping Naked build brand awareness and achieve business goals. In this capacity, Wade has agreed to share his expertise and breadth of experience as it pertains to the growth of the Company.

Naked was founded on one basic desire, to create a new standard for how products worn close to the skin fit, feel and function.  Naked has a strong and growing retail footprint for its innovative and luxurious men's innerwear products in some of the best online and department stores in North America. In 2014, renowned designer and sleepwear pioneer, Carole Hochman, joined Naked as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Creative Officer and Chairwoman with the goal of growing Naked into a global lifestyle brand. Naked is now headquartered in New York City, has expanded its men's collections and has developed amazing women's intimate apparel, sleepwear and loungewear collections – the kind of extraordinary products for which Carole Hochman has been admired for years. The first of these women's collections will be available online and at retail during 2015. In the future, Naked plans to expand into other apparel and product categories that can exemplify the mission of the brand, such as activewear, swimwear, sportswear and more.

Dwyane Wade is a three-time NBA Champion (2006, 2012, 2013) and eleven-time All-Star selection with the Miami HEAT. In 2006, three years after first joining the HEAT as the No. 5 overall Draft pick, he led the team to Miami's first-ever NBA Championship and was named MVP of the Finals. In 2012 and 2013, Dwyane won his second and third NBA Championships. In 2004, he created the Wade's World Foundation, which provides support to various educational, health and family service programs, in particular those that benefit underserved communities in Miami and his hometown of Chicago. In 2011, Wade was appointed to President Obama's Fatherhood Task Force. In September 2012, he became a New York Times Best-Selling author, with the release of his first book, A FATHER FIRST: How My Life Became Bigger than Basketball. Dwyane has partnerships with Hublot, Stance, The Tie Bar, Gatorade, MISSION Athletecare, Pepperidge Farm, The Collection, and serves as Chief Brand Officer for Li-Ning.
