Alberta Ferretti Born Free Initiative
Alberta Ferretti
takes an active part in the Born Free initiative by designing two exclusive
pieces for the Born Free Collection. This project brings together 22 leading,
international female designers and models fighting together to end
mother-to-child HIV transmission by December 31, 2015.
These designers and
models, but most importantly, mothers, created two looks: one for mother, one
for child, based on specially designed prints by Kenyan artist Wngenchi Mutu.
The collection will be sold exclusively on ShopBop.com starting today, April 23,
2014, with most pieces retailing under $250, and all profits benefiting the
Born Free Foundation Mission.
"As a designer,
mother and woman I am both happy and touched to be part of such a beautiful
initiative. By joining hopes and forces with other women, I hope we reach our
common goal to fight HIV, especially as this research could benefit future
generations” states Alberta Ferretti.
On Mother's Day,
May 11, 2014, a kick-off event for families will be held in New York City's Pier
45, sponsored by Amazon Fashion, featuring a number of participating
collaborators and designers, as well as live entertainment and attractions from
leading athletes, authors, artists, chefs and musicians.

Galleria Intima 2014: Intimate Apparel Association of India
Galleria Intima 2014 shall take place on 18th & 19th
August 2014 at Grand Hyatt, Goa.
Organized by the venerable Intimate Apparel Association of India, the 3rd edition of the Galleria Intima continues to be a show that every industry professional whether manufacturer, brand buyer, retailer or designer, should aspire to attend.
Here’s why you should be marking your calendar for the 18th and 19th of August, 2014:
Last year, the gathering saw 300+ visiting brands and this year, the 3rd edition of this monumental event promises to get even bigger as the organizers expect more then 600+ brands to visit the show this year. With 20000+ square feet of exhibition space, over 75+ exhibitors and estimated transactions of over 4 billion rupees worth of business, this fair is sure to be a precursor for the industry in India in the coming year.
However, the grandeur of the event is spelt not just in sheer numbers, but also indicated by the bigwigs that grace this occasion and who set the tone not just for the 2-day fair but also for what the industry portends in the coming months. Last year, the event was attended by a laudable 1200 visitors, out of which 300 were intimate apparel brands from India. Many prominent buying houses from India and abroad were also seen at the show. Global giants in the intimate apparel business, such as LYCRA, Chanty Laces, Carvico, Forster Rohner, Lenzing, Noyon Laces, Stretchline, Prym Intimate, Silueta, Lectra, Morgan Technica, Tuka Tech, Trischel, Alok Industries and many more, showcased their merchandise last year and this year too, many more such brands should be watched out for, that will catapult this fair from an important national industry event to a significant global happening.
Eminent Indian industry insiders were also left deeply impressed with the show last year and look forward to August, 2014 with heightened anticipation and optimism. Ashok Reddy of Lovable Lingerie, one of the major brands in the industry, remarked, “Having attended the show last year as well, I can see the monumental progress that has been made in the entire Indian intimate apparel industry. The strength and response this event has received this year leaves no doubt in my mind about the kind of advancement I am expecting in the industry in the next 5 years. The future looks bright.”
Sourcing professionals, exhausted from your failed attempts at finding the raw materials you need at the right prices? The following participation should definitely give you something to choose from:
The presence of your merchandise among these people, will be sure to take your business to the next level. The icing on the cake for both raw material manufacturers and buyers, will most definitely planned B2B meetings of exhibitors and visitors.
No matter what sector of this industry you belong to, you need to be abreast of the latest trends, best practices and forecasts in the business. And Galleria Intima does not let down on this count. This year there will be significant focus on learning and knowledge sharing which will commence with a white paper from Wazir Partners, quite aptly titled “Changing Face of Indian Intimate Wear Consumer- From Basics to Function, Fashion & Fun” to discuss the phenomenon of the hour- the evolution of intimate apparel in the Indian consumer’s lifestyle from a basic necessity to an integral part of their daily fashion and leisure demands.
Panel discussions and presentations with participation from influential titans are sure to set the industry abuzz with what the future will bring. And you get to hear it first hand, from those whose opinions truly matter. Just to give you a flavour, last year’s panelists included Mr. Shekar Tewari of Hanes, Mr. Ajay Amalean of Amante, Mr. Sunil Pathare of VIP, Mr. Ashok Reddy of Lovable, Mr. Rakesh Grover of Groversons, Mr. Uttam of Intimate Apparels and Mr. Sumir Hinduja of Enamor.
This year too, a wide variety of the most industry- relevant topics whether the significance of online retail or the strategic pillars of manufacturing, will be discoursed on, discussed and dissected by the people who directly determine the growth of this industry.
If plain dry facts won’t just do for you, get ready for some show and tell with the high-octane ramp walk that will feature the latest designs and collections in premium and high-end lingerie. The special selection of contemporary merchandise on display will also reveal a wealth of insights for you to take home. “For the last two years, the IAAI has left no stone unturned in raising awareness amongst both intimate apparel suppliers as well as brands, about the significance of this platform, that can go a long way in bridging demand-supply gaps in the industry. And, Galleria Intima has achieved this goal commendably, by addressing the bottlenecks in this raw-material deprived industry head-on. However there is still a lot of ground to be covered, despite the tremendous progress and this will be seen to in Galleria Intima 2014. This time the focus is not just on quantitative increase of exhibition space; rather a more qualitative approach is taken. The idea is to get into intricate detailing while also enhance the number of visitors to this event. After all, the ultimate goal is to make this the most important annual event for not just the Indian intimate apparel industry but also all of Asia, as a whole.” Added Mr. Yusuf Dohadwala, CEO of IAAI.
Tired of not being able to truly connect with industry veterans in stiff and formal business settings? Here’s a chance to actually bond with them in a personalized and intimate gathering where you could chat, share a few drinks and build a strong network that may help you crack the next crucial business deal. And if you are lucky, you could be the privileged attendee of an intimate by invitation only gala dinner hosted by the organizers for an evening of unwinding and networking.
Frills such as airport pickup drop facility, the presence of national dignitaries such as free accommodation for IAAI primary members and VIP visitors, networking nights, trends boutique, seminars & panel discussions add further to the splendor of this event.
Goa, the melting pot of diverse cultures, lifestyles and nationalities is not only the one destination in India, truly worthy of this international event but also with its scenic beaches, trendy clubs and quaint cafes makes for the perfect setting to truly let industry professionals mix business with pleasure. So book your tickets now to ensure that you don’t miss this event which will guarantee a bouquet of opportunities for your business.

“We chose three designers who met and exceeded the IWP global criteria for this prestigious award. The Emperor 1688, Kage and House of Fatam have shown exceptional talent and represent perfectly the diversity and quality of Middle Eastern designers,” added Guerrero.
Five regional awards will be held in Asia, Australia, Europe, India & Middle East and the USA to select the ten finalists, each receiving AU$50,000 financial contribution towards their next collection as well as an invitation to participate in the international final.
The five menswear finalists will meet at London Collections: Men in January 2015 and the five womenswear finalists will meet in Beijing in March 2015.
The winners of both the menswear and womenswear finals will receive a further AU$100,000 to assist with fabric sourcing and marketing of their collection. In addition, both international winners will have their collection commercialized through key international retail partners including Harvey Nichols in the UK, Joyce in China, Saks Fifth Avenue in the USA, Colette in France, 10 Corso Como in Italy, My Theresa online and David Jones in Australia.
The nominee designers are required to present the sketches of a Merino wool capsule collection comprising six outfits, with one full outfit to be produced at the India & Middle East regional award to be held in India later this year. The collections will be judged by a panel of local and international experts, soon to be announced.
The India & Middle-East nominees for the 2014/15 IWP are:
Womenswear
The IWP now boasts impressive alumni of the most important designers from around the globe, as well as partnerships established with some of the most successful leading designers including Narciso Rodriguez, Victoria Beckham, Diane von Furstenberg and Richard Nicoll.
“The addition of a menswear award for this year signifies the strength and following of the International Woolmark Prize and its impact over the past two years across the globe,” explained The Woolmark Company Managing Director Stuart McCullough.
“Previous winners, Christian Wijnants from Belgium and Rahul Mishra from India, have both experienced exponential increase in the turnover of their businesses, becoming international names overnight after their respective wins in London in 2013 and Milan in 2014.”

The
Woolmark Story
In 1964, the iconic Woolmark symbol was born.
Its purpose: to act as an independent quality
assurance of every product it adorns—more than 5 billion of them, so far,
making the Woolmark brand the best-known textile quality brand in the world.
As the global authority on Merino wool, The Woolmark
Company works with the global textile and fashion industries at every level,
developing better textiles and driving consumer demand.
The story begins with the farmers who rear Merino
sheep to grow and harvest the highest quality wool known to man. Working with
textile mills from Japan to Italy and everywhere in between, The
Woolmark Company invests heavily in research and
development, advancing the fibre and inspiring the world’s leading fashion
designers to craft garments from Merino wool.
For 50 years, the Woolmark logo has strived to
showcase the extraordinary versatility and innate luxury of Merino wool,
creating a fleece that to this day is coveted across the globe.
Wool is a 100 per cent natural and renewable fibre.
Sheep live on grass, water, fresh air and sunshine. Wool is a fibre that is
grown – not man-made. Every year sheep produce a new fleece, making wool a
renewable fibre source.

Nike Exits Wearable Technology
Nike has taken significant steps to exit the wearable technology market. Sure, they may start again in the future. But at this time, they appear to be OUT.
Nike is apparently dismantling (firing) the hardware team behind the FuelBand fitness tracker. The company reportedly fired between 70 to 80% of the 70-person hardware team on Thursday.
Don't quote us on these numbers because so far this is only being read on social networks. We have not communicated directly with Nike or read official comments from Nike.
Although I do not have any facts to support this, I would like to mention that it is possible that Nike was happy with their own product, but concerned with what Goolge, Apple, or some other tech giant has coming out in the near future.
Last year, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, did not have spectacular success. Is it possible that wearable tech does not do as well at retail as many companies would like?
Bye, bye, FuelBand.
Again, Nike appears to be stepping back from FuelBand. However, it is our assumption that if wearing technology becomes big, Nike will be part of the action. Who knows? Maybe they will develop a licensing agreement with a tech company...
