Alvanon brings Fashion Fit Movement to UK
Alvanon, the global fashion industry’s leading fashion sizing and fit expert,
has committed over £50,000 worth of world class technical fit forms and pattern
blocks to Fashion Enter, a groundbreaking garment manufacturing and training
centre of excellence based in The Factory, Haringey, North
London. The technical fit AlvaForms and AlvaBlock pattern templates will be
used in Fashion Enter’s Stitching Academy , established with the support
of online fashion retailer ASOS.com, to give young people recognised
apprenticeships in technical sewing and production skills. The Fashion Enter
enterprise is showing by example that it is possible to fill the
UK ’s sewing and technical
skills’ gap and re-build a viable and sustainable UK-based manufacturing
sector.
Alvanon’s AlvaForm
donation will put world class garment sizing and fit tools in the hands of
Fashion Enter’s experienced production team and apprentices enabling them to
design and produce ‘best’ fitting garments for fashion clients that include
ASOS.com, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Topshop. It is the second donation
of its kind Alvanon has made following the launch of its global Fashion Fit
Movement; an initiative aimed at helping restore and
revitalise technical sewing skills and local manufacturing hubs in the US,
Europe and Far East. As part of its global fashion fit initiative, Alvanon has
committed to donate its technical fit tools and consultancy services to selected
apparel design and manufacturing businesses that are rebuilding their local
production capabilities, and to industry associations that support local
production efforts.
Commenting on the
donation to Fashion Enter, Jenny Holloway its founder and chief executive
officer said: “We are striving to achieve the highest possible production and
training standards. Alvanon’s donation will enable our sewing professionals and
apprentices to size and fit garments accurately and consistently across the
production process.” She added: “I cannot overstate how important it is to
produce clothes that satisfy the sizing and fit requirements of our customers –
it means they get clothes that fit more of their customers better, this leads to
greater customer loyalty, increased demand and translates into repeat business
for us. We are indebted to Alvanon for its support.”
In response Janice
Wang, CEO, Alvanon explained: “Fashion Enter is playing a leadership role in the
re-skilling of the UK ’s fashion manufacturing sector and
its achievements have already been outstanding. Its Stitching Academy is training up to 20 new students
every six weeks and giving them a level 1 national qualification in ‘stitching
skills’ which can lead into a full apprenticeship programme in fashion and
textiles.” She concluded: “Fashion Enter is restoring ‘the lost art of the
technical’ and this will have a major impact on the UK ’s ability to re-build its garment manufacturing sector.
As Alvanon’s CEO I am 100 per cent behind Jenny’s production and training
ambitions and am delighted we have been able to assist.”
In the nine months
to February 2014 Fashion Enter is on track to realise 43 per cent year on year
growth and is set to more than double its manufacturing space increasing its
production capacity from 7,500 to over 16,000 units per week. A total of sixteen
AlvaForms will be located throughout The Factory including in its pattern making
and grading, sampling, fitting and production-line
departments.
About Fashion
Enter
Founded in 2006 Fashion Enter’s garment production and
training enterprise operates from The Factory, and currently outputs some 7,500
units a week. The Factory’s services include; pattern making and cutting,
toiling, first-fit sampling and mass production. Its team of highly skilled
pattern cutters and machinists manufacture all soft separates in woven and
jersey plus tailored items. The Factory also houses the Stitching Academy, the
UK’s first collaborative apprenticeship and training facility set up by ASOS.com
and Fashion Enter, which provides a route into a National Apprenticeship that
previously did not exist in fashion for young people. The Factory also houses
The Fashion Studio a sampling and toiling facility for small production runs of
up to 300 units and is set to expand to incorporate a new Fashion Technical Academy . The ASOS Foundation, a registered
charity, supplies all technical equipment and machinery, matching contributions
from Haringey Council for teaching costs. All activity is also supported by
grant funding from the Department of Work & Pensions via Jobcentre Plus to
drive British manufacturing by young people. For more information, please visit

About
Alvanon’s Fashion Fit Movement
Through its Fashion
Fit Movement Alvanon donates garment sizing and fit tools and consultancy
services to selected companies and association’s that are actively seeking to
rebuild and restore local production capabilities. The tools and consultancy
services will support fashion manufacturers at virtually every stage of garment
production from design concept and development through to pattern making,
sampling, fitting and full production.
Alvanon’s first
donation was made to the influential Council of Fashion Designers of America’s
Fashion Manufacturing Initiative (FMI), an investment fund that offers matching
financial grants to select New York City
fashion manufacturing businesses. The donation consisted of Alvanon’s AlvaForm
technical fit mannequins and AlvaBlock pattern templates, which FMI awarded to
New York City-based pattern service Werkstatt. The donation to CFDA’s FMI program was the first
in an ongoing series of technology and performance tool gifts to fashion
manufacturers in the US , UK/Europe and
Far East .
As Janice Wang, CEO of
Alvanon explained: The Fashion Fit Movement is our way of giving back to an
industry that’s been so good to us. Fashion manufacturing in New York City and other global fashion hubs has changed
tremendously in recent decades. It’s been a time when major centers such as
New York , London and Hong Kong have
lost huge pools of technical talent. Our intent is to reinvigorate manufacturing
centres of excellence with fundamental production tools, reestablish the lost
art of pattern making and encourage professionals at all levels to stake their
businesses in these locations. We want the art of the technical to thrive in
these locations.”

fodada "Dad and Me" Program
The lifestyle brand fodada (for the best dada in
the world) has launched their “Dad and Me” program in
celebration of what a great dad can mean to a child. It is a dedication for
dads to spend more time with their children. As and added little bonus, every
dad who participates (by signing the fodada commitment letter and sending in a
photo) will receive a free fodada tee as a badge of honor. See below for
details.
Thank you for taking the time to read our fashion blog post. We hope that you have found this news to be informative. If you have comments or questions, please add your thoughts in the discussion area below.
Dad and
Me
The best
gift we can give to a child is time.
fodada is
taking up a crusade to bring fathers and their children closer together and give
them the greatest gift of all: the dedication of time, which has been proven to
create more confident kids with stronger skills, ready to take on the
world.
The Dad and
Me campaign is simple.
1. Kids: Download a commitment
letter from the fodada website, sign it and give it to your
dads.
2. Dads: Sign the
commitment letter and pledge to spend three, one-hour blocks of time per month
doing things together that are totally fun and silly, educational, and active
and outdoors. It’s not a
gimmick but rather an investment in your relationship that we hope will create
habits that promote dad-and-child interaction and
engagement.
Schools
also can ask for the forms to be provided to students to take
home.
fodada will
recognize dads who sign the pledge by sending them a specially design t-shirt
from their collection. All they need to do is send a photo featuring a Dad and
Me moment, along with the completed form, to dadandme@fodadawear.com. fodada will
send a free tee to dad as his badge of honor for his
commitment.
Yes,
it’s that
easy, but it goes way beyond a pledge form, photo and tee. It even goes beyond a
year of dad-kid activities.
The Dad and
Me campaign is a way for dads to promote and celebrate their role set up their
children for a lifetime of healthy development — something psychologists,
sociologist and even the White House deems vital.
- Did you know that preschoolers with actively involved fathers have stronger verbal skills?
- Or that girls with strong relationships with their fathers do better in mathematics?
- And that fathers’ involvement seems to encourage children’s exploration of the world around them and confidence in their ability to solve problems?
That means
dads can help their kids grow up to be smarter, more confident and solve
problems easier just by being there for them. Playing laser tag. Going to a
museum. Exploring a nature trail. All the kinds of things dads and kids will
commit to do together as part of the Dad and Me campaign!
fodada is
keen to start a revolution that redefines what being a great dad means, and is
introducing the Dad and Me campaign to spark a radical change that sweeps the
country.

make an impression on the people around you.

Gail Be Designs
With her life-size fashions, Gail Be is forging her way into an entirely new art genre. The uniqueness of Be's couture fashions is that they are made completely of beads, sequins, ribbons and feathers. Little or no fabric is ever used, she beads onto beads, not onto fabric.
Be does not draw or pre-sketch, solder or use mathematical calculations in any of her designs. She admits that she does not even know how to turn on a sewing machine and has received no formal training in dress design.

Layering Necklaces Lessons from Art of Henri
Is there such a thing as much too much? Not when it comes to layering necklaces.
However, this may need to come with a little more thought as it could easily
turn into a disaster. But, accessorizing is all about enhancing your personal
style. Specifically, the jewelry you choose and how you wear it helps define
your look. These necklace from Art of Henri (www.artofhenri.com) are great layering
pieces. If it’s just enhancing a basic tee, these necklaces, which are all
different lengths, add character and true personalized style to your outfit.

Summer White is Here
Now that 100 Days of Summer are finally here, it’s time to revisit those summer
whites!
If you’re seeking to add some white options to your wardrobe, check out Oak73. The brand launched for Spring 14 by Matt Dunne, formerly of Burch Creative Capital, to provide style-driven, ready to wear and accessories at a competitive price ($25-$290) while also eliminating waste (purchasing excess fabrics that would normally go to waste) and supporting American jobs by producing 100% of the collection in the US (75% in NYC).
Oak73 Launches
The NYC‐based clothing and accessories brand Oak73 launched for Spring 14 available exclusively online at Oak73.com. The debut collection features print‐driven women’s clothing and accessories with plans to roll out a complete lifestyle line including menswear and home goods. Tapping into the hot topic of “on‐shoring,” Oak73 products are made entirely in the USA, mostly sourced and produced in NYC.
Founder Matthew Dunne has put his extensive experience in art direction, graphic design and fashion design to good use with the launch of this exciting new brand. After studying at the Art Institute of Chicago and graduating from the University of Michigan, Dunne cut his teeth at Ralph Lauren, Isaac Mizrahi, J. Mendel, The Row, Carolina Herrera and Michael Kors. He went on to become the personal illustrator of Chris Burch at Burch Creative Capital and played an instrumental role in design and development for C. Wonder.
Matthew Dunne’s philosophy for Oak 73 is simple. Create a fashion‐forward, premium quality American-made product and offer it directly to consumers (i.e. without wholesalers) at less than standard retail prices. The production stays in the USA, and the customer reaps the rewards of high style at value pricing. Selling direct to the consumer with no wholesale middle‐man allows consumers to enjoy a minimum of 25% savings, not sometimes, all the time. Dunne’s strong relationships with fabric sellers allows him to source overages of quality designer fabrics, making his selections with an emphasis on color and bold prints such as florals, animal prints, stripes and more. In addition, limited fabric quantities translate into limited production quantities, which means that customers get a unique, almost one‐of‐a‐kind novelty item at a fabulous price. What’s more, the site will offer a notification feature that will alert customers when an item is close to selling out.
In an effort to connect with customers in a meaningful way, Oak73 will engage the consumer in the design process through social media. The brand will place a premium on customer feedback and will create product based on direct demand offering a real time response rather than relying solely on trend forecasting.
OAK: Original. American. Kind.
