What is the most important company effecting the world of
fashion?
Are you kidding? I hope you were not really thinking that I
could tell you which company is the best. The unfortunate reality is that it is
not possible nor logical to pick only one. Between sourcing, retailing,
financing, distribution etc., it would be impossible to determine an absolute
“most important”. Fashion is not simply about the clothes that a consumer may
see on store shelves. It is important to understand that there is an entire
industry behind each product, designer, brand.
Let’s take into account that even the absolute best in class
retailers wouldn’t be “the best” if they did not work with leading partners to
achieve their overall business goals. For example, think about your favorite
clothing store. Do you think that they became amazing on their own? Odds are,
they have fantastic resources that are working behind the scenes. In order for
a clothing retailer to be superb, they need assistance. They need distribution
partners, retail business software, legal advice, public relations advice, etc.
The companies that they use need to be the best at what they do. In other
words, behind every great fashion business is a group of fantastic companies
providing support, services, and products. This is what makes the business part
of an “industry”. The great
companies, use great suppliers.
