According to a lot of people, your wedding day is the most important day of your life. This can mean that lots of happy couples looking to tie the knot can be careless when spending their money and often spend far more than they need to on their big day. But there are a few things that you can do to enjoy a wedding on a budget.
While it is important to ensure that you and everyone invited enjoys your wedding day, it is also important to be practical and stick to a budget. Check out the top five ways to save money on your wedding and still have a great day:
Ask Family and Friends to Cook the Food: You don’t need to spend thousands on food or use a professional catering company that includes a sit-down meal for your guests. In fact, a great way to reduce the cost of a wedding is to ask your family and friends to each cook something to bring to the party and serve lots of fun finger food rather than a complete meal.
Host the Party at Home: You don’t need to hire a plush venue that costs lots of money to decorate. If you prefer, you can just have the party at your house. If you don’t have enough space, then why not ask your parents or a friend if you can host the party at their place?  If you really want to rent somewhere, then you can keep the cost down by hiring a small venue such as a local hall.
Skip the Band – Play your own Music: There’s no need to pay for an expensive band to come and play the music at your wedding when you can put your favourite CDs on instead. Bands can be expensive and somewhat unnecessary, as all you need to have lots of fun is great people around you, lots of tasty food and drinks plus some music in the background.
Buy a Non-Wedding Dress: One of the biggest costs of a wedding day is the clothes, but there are a few things you can do to reduce this cost. You can still opt for white or cream but you don’t need to have an actual wedding dress to look amazing on your big day and in the pictures. All your wedding photos can be put together into a photobook that you can easily order through an online company like Photobox. You can go to a second-hand shop and buy a wedding dress from there or go one step further and buy a nice non-wedding dress from a regular shop.
Pick Your Own Flowers: Flowers can also be expensive for a wedding and they also go to waste after the celebrations are over, which is a costly shame. Why not pick flowers from your garden and make your own bouquets? Ask your relatives if you can take some flowers from their gardens to create the centrepieces for the tables and the bouquets.
Many couples spend large amounts of money on their wedding day, but there are lots of things that you can do to keep the cost down. Let’s be honest – getting married is all about the romance, not how much money you spend, and you don’t need to break the bank to have a wonderful wedding day.
