Young Designers Award Winners F/W 2016/17
WOMENSWEAR
NOBI TALAI
Elaborately wrapped and lavishly draped. A graduate of Berlin’s ESMOD fashion school, Nobieh Talaei’s designs have enchanted both fashion writers and buyers alike. She has also been selected as a mentee for the Fashion Council Germany’s mentoring program and is this season’s winner of the PREMIUM Young Designers Award in the “Womenswear” category. The up-and-coming designer takes inspiration from the way of life of the Persian nomads. Elaborate wrap dresses, lavishly draped, high-neck long blouses and voluminous, flowing trousers exude coolness and sophistication.
MENSWEAR
CSB London
With CSB, Christopher Brogden has realized his vision of uniting traditional craftsmanship with sporty elements. Brogden takes inspiration from the captivating dandy look and the lifestyle of the “flaneur”, and this is reflected in his creations. The result: contemporary coolness. His latest collection features strong silhouettes and experimental surface textures. But Brogden is by no means a newcomer to the fashion business. He made a name for himself as Head of Design at Donna Karen New York and as a design consultant at Tommy Hilfiger. Christopher Brogden has been awarded the PREMIUM Young Designers Award in the “Menswear” category for his young label’s impressive Fall/Winter 2016/17 collection.
ACCESSOIRES
CAMILLA ELPHICK
Premium, hand-crafted footwear fashions from Italy decorated with individual prints are the trademark of Camilla Elphick, a London-based designer who learnt product design from scratch. Before specializing in footwear design at the University of the Arts in London, Elphick was a student at New York’s Parsons School of Design. Her offbeat creations are already gaining ground globally. Alongside Europe’s fashion capitals, Camilla Elphick shoes can also be found in Hong Kong and Beirut. Her designs are inspired by the world’s cities and feature names such as “Princess Corgi” and “Mademoiselle Poodle”.
SEASON´S SPECIAL
LAAIN
Season’s Special (activewear)
Fashion that can be worn both in the gym and in an executive meeting is more in demand than ever, and this trend hasn’t gone unnoticed by Sheila McKain-Waid and Tamara Rothstein, two designers who have chosen to make their home in London. With their LAAIN label, the duo has decided to specialize in activewear. Their impressive collection, which combines classic sportwear elements with luxurious fabrics and a modern, minimalist elegance, is the reason why LAAIN was crowned winner in the “Season’s Special” category. Founded a mere three years ago in 2013, LAAIN won approval right from the start: the two young designers’ first collection celebrated its début in high-end online shop Net-a-porter.
Last season PREMIUM began organizing guided Young Talents tours whereby members of the press along with industry professionals could access key information about the collections and meet with specific designers. These tours are a vital source of information both for the press and buyers, allowing them to get ahead of the competition when it comes to finding the newest labels. As last season’s tours were met with such a positive response, we will be hosting another round of talent tours this season, which will take place between 19 and 21 January. Buyers, members of the press and fashion professionals can register for the event. Alongside the winners from the current Fall/Winter season 2016/17, the PREMIUM Talent Tour will also feature winners from the past Summer season.
A new feature of this year’s event is that the stands of the selected winning brands will be placed in the relevant hall for their specific segment instead of at a joint stand as was done previously. This is so that visitors can experience these young designers within an environment that matches their individual theme and brand.
The PREMUM Young Talents Showcase, featuring in the display windows of Galeries Lafayette, will take place from 15 to 30 January, 2016. During the trade show, the PREMIUM Shuttle Service will be stopping outside the store on 23 Französische Straße for those who would like to see the showcase.
