It is not every day that a new luxury clothing store opens in
New York City. The situation is even more rare when it is iconic retailer
returning to its roots.
That same pride that you often see on the faces of new
parents can been seen all over the Barneys offices this week. That’s because
February 15, 2016 marked the day New Yorkers and the fashion world has been
looking forward to for a very long time. The official opening of their new Barneys
downtown flagship in NYC.
Just shy of a century after being founded there and two
decades since leaving to move up to Madison Avenue, Barneys New York is
returning to our original home at Seventh Avenue and 17th Street, where our
story began.
The 58,000-square-foot space, which takes up nearly a whole
block, was designed by Steven Harris Architects and includes five floors
anchored by a signature spiral staircase. The store will carry men’s and
women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, footwear, and cosmetics. It will also house
a personal shopping suite on the fourth floor, a Freds restaurant on the third
floor, and in the basement, a beauty shop, apothecary, and an outpost of Blind
Barber.
