Burberry Goes Off The Rail

Earlier this week, Burberry appears to have made a good choice with putting pressure on JCPenney to be more cautious when selling designs that can potentially infringe (see Burberry Sues JCPenney). However, at that same time, they appear, in my opinion, to be making other poor decisions.

Fashion marketing as fickle and often racy, but I do not understand why the luxury brand Burberry needs to post an image such as above.  Sure it is not completely out of control, but this is something that I would expect to see on an American Apparel ad campaign, not an iconic brand such as Burberry.

One women in a trench coat, the other looking like a boy with her legs spread. What are they trying to sell?  As far as I can tell, as of today Burberry is not even selling underwear on the website.
I used their engine today and searched for underwear, panties, intimates, bras, lingerie, and all of which had zero results.  So, why is she in her underwear. They are not selling underwear on their website today, and this is not a Calvin Klein ad from the 1990's.

Anyway, I am all for trying to garner attention with imagery.  However, in my opinion, some brands should not behave in the same manner as other brands.

Possibly I am way over reacting and am out of touch.  But when I look at this photo, I do not see luxury or powerful women, I see smut.

What do you think of the Burberry photo selection?

By the way, I am still a fan of Burberry and the great heritage behind the luxury brand.  However, I am not happy with this particular choice.

Shop at Burberry for their fashion, not their photos.
