Cropped Pants or Capris

What is the difference between cropped pants & capris?  Honestly, I am not 100% certain.  In my opinion, a capri should be considered a "type" of cropped trouser.  Cropping something is the process of removing something.  Like when cropping an image, you are removing the portion of the image you don't want as part of the photo.  In a similar way, cropping pants is taking away portion of the unwanted leg length of the pant.  If that is the case, the capri has had fabric length cropped from the leg length and is therefore a type of cropped pant.

Taking this a step further, let's keep in mind that many people define a cropped pant as an ankle length pant.  But how can people say it is ankle length when other types of "cropped" pants are shorter.  For example, the capri is typically mid-calf length.

Anyway, it is actually very confusing.  Or is it only me that is confused?
