Izod Returns to the Women's Market
Izod was "out", but it appears to be coming back "in".
On January 7, 2015 (yes, I said 2015) parent company PVH announced that it would be closing all 120 Izod retail outlets due to an increased competitive environment driven by more premium brands in the outlet retail channel. This move was not intended to affect Izod's growing wholesale business to department stores and other retailers. As of 2015, Izod no longer made or sold women's clothing except for the golf line. In the opinion of Apparel Search, exiting the women's market may not have been the best idea. Rather than spending time and energy strategizing how to exit the women's market, they possibly could have better spent time focusing on redesigning a new logo.
"Izod" has meaning to a particular segment of consumer, the current "logo" possibly not so much.
Obviously losing the alligator hurt (the pain possibly started back in 1993). Which may have ultimately led to the desperate idea of bailing out of the very important women's market.
Maybe they should have taken a bite out of Lacoste and been more creative with a competitive logo. Maybe PVH should hire someone from Apparel Search. We would tell them to create a better logo to eat the Lacoste alligator for lunch. Let's be honest, the Lacoste logo is more recognizable that the "IZ" crest.

Azzedine Alaïa Has Passed Away
Today November 18, 2017 it was announced that fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa had died in Paris.
Azzedine Alaia was a Tunisian-born couturier and shoe designer, particularly successful beginning in the 1980s. After his graduation, Alaïa began working as a dressmaker's assistant. He soon began dressing private clients, and in 1957 he moved to Paris to work in fashion design. In Paris, he started to work at Christian Dior as a tailleur, but had to leave five days later as the Algerian war broke out, soon moved to work for Guy Laroche for two seasons, then for Thierry Mugler until he opened his first atelier in his little rue de Bellechasse apartment the late 1970s. He produced his first ready-to-wear collection in 1980 and moved to larger premises on rue du Parc-Royal in the Marais district.

In his youth he gained an early appreciation for design. His glamorous twin sister inspired his love for couture. A French friend of his mother fed Alaïa's instinctive creativity with copies of Vogue. He lied about his age to get himself into the local École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis, where he gained valuable insights into the human form and began studying sculpture.
During the mid-1990s, following the death of his sister, Alaïa virtually vanished from the fashion scene; however, he continued to cater for a private clientele and enjoyed commercial success with his ready-to-wear lines.

Well, this changes from time to time because both of those companies are continuously attempting to improve search results. Algorithms and optimization is a continues game for the search engines. Therefore, the search results for a particular query change continuously.
Not always, but the search engines often direct us to fashion magazine websites. For example, you may be led to fashion magazines such as Vogue, InStyle, Marie Claire, or GQ. Or you may be taken to women's fashion sites such as WWD or websites such as Refinery 29.
Fortunately, Bing & Google will also guide members of the apparel industry and consumers to industry specific websites such as the one you are reading now (ApparelSearch.com).
