What does Brexit mean for the fashion
industry?
I don’t know.
The people of Britain voted for a British exit, or Brexit,
from the EU in a historic referendum on Thursday June 23, 2016. This puts the
world into some uncharted territory in many respects. Because fashion is in
some way effect by just about every aspect of life, it is fair to say that
Brexit will have an effect on our industry.
The exit from the EW will obviously have various short term
& long term effects in one direction or the other (some positive & some
negative). Fortunately, the fashion market is resilient and has grown accustom
to various turmoil that is out of our industries control. Frankly, we are
rather use the ebbs and flows that come our way. When all is said and done, the
fashion industry of most nations involved, will bounce back from any short term
disruption.
Although some companies will be effected, it is fair to say
the people in Europe will continue to design, produce, wholesale, retail, and
wear clothing & fashion accessories. This fact of life will most likely not
change. Therefore, these countries will most likely heal from any negative
short or long term effects that they encounter that stem from
Brexit.
The initial changes may be in regard to who buys from who and
the cost of raw materials and finished products. Certainly, complexity is under
way. However, let’s keep our heads up and be happy with the understanding that
this will not be the demise of the fashion industry in Britain or the other
European countries.
How this will truly effect the international apparel market
is beyond my limits of understanding? If you have thoughts on how Brexit will
affect the world of fashion, you are welcome to post your
comments.
