Footwear Trends 2020 from Leslie Gallin

Leslie Gallin knows a thing or two about footwear fashion. As the President of Footwear for FN PLATFORM, THE international showcase where global leaders in footwear convene to shape the industry, network and shop for shoes, she is a footwear maven and fashionista. With a background working with folks like Geoffrey Beene, Escada, Louis Feraud and Pauline Trigere –  Leslie has seen trends come and go and come back again.

FN PLATFORM in Las Vegas February 5-7, 2020.

FN PLATFORM is the ultimate shoe show with amazing activations on the show floor and the latest and greatest in footwear by brands like Zac Posen , Cole Haan, Timberland, Sorel, Frye, Vionic, Marc Nason, Schutz and Camper just to name a few.

Below are a few of Leslie’s favorite styles that are sure to be seen in the coming months.

1.       THE SCULPTURED HEEL

We’re seeing a real mix right now with platforms, kitten heels, flats and there’s no right or wrong.  But there IS a standout! The most intriguing heel is the sculptured heel. This is not just fashion; it’s art and they are stunning. It’s a bold look that takes any outfit to the next level and makes you unique. Go for it in 2020! Trust me, the complements will fly….

2.       LOAFER PUMPS

The flat loafer has been a staple on runways, and 2020 brings it into the new decade with a few twists – heels, buckles, backless and more. This is no longer a “preppy” shoe; it’s a dynamite fashion statement with a feminine twist.

3.       BOWS

Bows are dominating much of fashion – just look at recent Golden Globes gowns worn by Jennifer Lopez and Scarlett Johansson. Always a chic classic, they are adorning shoes as well. A good bow can take you anywhere – a wedding, the beach, a business meeting and more.

4.       ANKLE TIES

Ankle ties are the perfect, no-fuss accent for the upcoming season’s favorite shoes. We’re seeing it on a variety of heel heights, which makes it practical and easy to wear. Whether laced high up the leg, tight around the ankle or tied over pant hems, the ankle strap provides a delicate aesthetic.

5.       UPDATED PLATFORM SNEAKER

In 2019, the platform sneaker trend hit the scene. It’s a fun silhouette that was cool in the ’90s and its resurgence is still here in 2020 – updated with a more refined sole and sharper toe for a more athletic inspired look.
