Appalatch Custom Fit Sweaters

Appalatch is an outdoor apparel company located in Asheville NC, with a plan to make the world’s first custom fit sweater program for the masses. They are striving to make gorgeous, high quality, custom fit sweaters using totally domestic fibers and labor. Already, with an offering of domestically made and mountain inspired goods on appalatch.com, they are ready to spread their wings.

Recently, Appalatch was featured in NY Magazine and exhibited at SXSW Eco, as well as at the exclusive men's American pop-up market, NorthernGrade.

We think Appalatch's story is interesting for the following reasons:

1. Appalatch's products have a timeless appeal that is ultra classic and of very high quality. Their design for both women and men keep one eye on performance and the other on timeless design. The result has been a unique hybrid that attracts people who are simply obsessed with wool for its performance attributes, and others who simply love quality and style.

2. Ethics and sustainability are the back bone of all decisions they make when it comes to manufacturing. Their custom fit sweater program will help further this mission. For example, with the 3D like knitting machine they are looking to purchase, they can drastically reduce the 20-30% of fabric that is thrown away in typical manufacturing. 3D printing sweaters means virtually zero waste.

3.Appalatch's story is entirely domestic -- everything they offer is made entirely within the USA. With American made clothing increasingly being sought after, they offer a solution to the problem of 98% of clothing bought last year, coming from abroad.  Appalatch is working to rebuild the textile manufacturing industry at home, one sweater at a time!

Who created the First Fashion Blog?

Have you ever put thought into who was behind the first fashion blog?  We are rather curious.

Although it is a long shot, we are wondering if the Think Tank fashion ramblings on Apparel Search had been the first.  If not the actual first, possibly it was one of the earliest versions of a style blog.

A blog (originally referenced as a web log) is a discussion or informational site published on the internet and consisting of entries (posts) typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first).  Originally blogs were most often the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often covered a single subject.   More recently multi-author blogs have developed, with posts written by large numbers of authors and professionally edited.  Blogs written by multiple people include online newspapers, fashion magazines, universities, think tanks, special interest groups and similar institutions account for an increasing quantity of blog traffic.  The rise of Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other "microblogging" systems helps integrate MABs and single-author blogs into news streams to that they can be easily located by the masses.

Style blogging can be seen as a form of social networking because the majority of them have some sort of messaging system where viewers can post comments and communicate with the author of the post.  Fashion bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs, but they also often build social relations with their readers.

Many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject (the most important subject obviously being clothing and accessories).  Some others function as more personal online diaries.  Some fashionistas keep a daily journal of their “outfits of the day” (OOTD) in the form of a blog.   Others function more as online brand advertising of a particular designer, brand, or company.  A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other websites.   You can view a good example at the fashion blogger website which is currently maintained on the WordPress platform.  To view additional options you can view some of our favorite blogs.

Do you actually know who created the first fashion blog on the net?  Please share your thoughts in the comments section below if you have proof that helps confirm who created the very first fashion blog.

If you enjoy reading about fashion you may want to follow the Fashion Blog page at Google.  Possibly, they know the answer to this question.
