House of Edge LondonEdge 36

48 hours of anarchy, fashion and mayhem from 3rd- 4th September as the Business Design Centre was transformed into an alternative fashion mecca for LondonEdge. The team positively rocked their 36th show delivering a bevvy of new exhibitors, seminars and industry insights, mesmerising catwalk shows and an unforgettable after-show party alongside countless other extra-curricular activity. Showcasing brands such as T.U.K, Collectif and Sourpuss, the list of exhibitors was packed with newly discovered glory.

In true LondonEdge spirit, the show kicked off with a seminar on the history of tattoo by expert speaker Dr. Matt Lodder. He took the audience through 150++ years of tattooing and, presenting to a full-house, Matt set the bar for the show’s fascinating seminar programme.

The rest of the line-up did not disappoint, closely followed by seminars by social media, blogging and vintage guru Kate Beavis and author Fiona Cartledge who took audiences back to the heyday of the 90s. Designed to give attendees the full 360˚ experience, a trip to this trade show certainly gave visitors much more than a look into the future season’s collections.

Nordstrom Local

Leading fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom, Inc. is pleased to announce Nordstrom Local – the company's latest retail concept and neighborhood hub where customers can shop and access Nordstrom services in a convenient, central location. This brand new Nordstrom experience will launch in West Hollywood on October 3, on the same day as the company's Westside Pavilion store relocation to Century City.

Nordstrom Local
Nordstrom Local will have a 3,000 sq. ft. footprint; much smaller than an average 140,000 sq. ft. Nordstrom store. This service-focused concept store has no dedicated inventory – rather, customers who want to shop will have access to Personal Stylists, who can transfer merchandise in for customers, as well as a suite of convenient services like Buy Online, Pick-Up In-Store (available same-day), Alterations & Tailoring, Trunk Club services, manicure appointments and more (please see full list below). Customers will also be able to make returns at Nordstrom Local from Nordstrom stores, Nordstrom.com and Trunk Club.

"As the retail landscape continues to transform at an unprecedented pace, the one thing we know that remains constant is that customers continue to value great service, speed and convenience," said Shea Jensen, Nordstrom senior vice president of customer experience who led the Nordstrom Local initiative. "We know there are more and more demands on a customer's time and we wanted to offer our best services in a convenient location to meet their shopping needs. Finding new ways to engage with customers on their terms is more important to us now than ever."

Nordstrom Local will have one styling suite and eight dressing rooms surrounding a central meeting space where customers can sit comfortably, enjoy a glass of wine or beer, and chat with their Personal Stylists. Customers will also find Alterations & Tailoring and Order Pickup at the entrance, and items can be hand-delivered to a customer's car via Curbside Pickup.

Summer 2017 Fashion Sales Report

The obvious and not-so-obvious winners of this year’s July sales.

Before our tan lines could fade, our inboxes were filled with promo newsletters talking about the last of season’s sales, announcing final reductions. This time of the year has always been bittersweet- between packing up our grills and laundering our swimsuits we’re hard at crunching Sales data, pulling up an analysis of what people have been buying off their screens. Was it all pink? Are denim cut-offs over? How did the 80’s one-piece do? How much was the US into straw bags?

But more importantly, the questions you really want to know:

How much pink did your competition sell?
Is anyone offering better deals on yellow sundresses?
Did you, perhaps, undersell your 80’s inspired swimwear?
Could you have avoided lost sales by stocking up more on straw bags?

Let’s go through them.

Trends that paid off

Stripes ruled. A neat 20% in-stock spike in May-June, of which 18.5% was out-of-stock by end of July, says so. Stripes at fast-fashion retailers and mass brands sold at an average 28% discount, while discounts at aspirational brands like Madewell & JCrew maxed out at 11%. Luxury fashion had to sell the hardest at 53% average discount.

Speaking of stripes, the surprise winner this summer was the striped one-piece swimsuit which made up for 10% of swimwear assortment between May to July. For a pattern that’s not the most flattering style for various body groups, stripes did pretty well in the swimwear category. The highest discounted striped swimwear went at 78% discount on Shopbop. Solid & ruffled one-pieces came close, averaging at a 46% discount.

The most stocked accessories this summer were in straw (or wicker, or raffia, or basket-they came by different names). Does this mean they sold well?
