The leading international professional fashion and accessories trade shows at the Porte de Versailles have closed the doors to their first event in 2017 on a positive note. The two trade shows have been a platform for a new-found energy, indicating an improved market dynamic.

A reassuring edition marked with the return of numerous leading buyers and boutique owners, efficient services for visitors, acclaimed conference programme and events; a positive general energy which reconnects the trade shows to their initial role: to stimulate the desire to buy, discover new brands, trigger sales and the flow of orders, and bring back together the fashion community.

Many different exhibitors from a range of sectors have noticed the arrival of new accounts as well as the upholding of their "regular" visitors. Nevertheless, the distributors have reduced the number of coworkers present, which explains a final visitor count of 45 192.

For the French market, one can note the return of multi-brand boutiques and selective concept stores such as Deschilder (Lille) for leather goods or Michard Ardillier (Bordeaux) for shoes. Also worth noting, is the arrival of new french buyers, new regional boutiques and/or e-shop's; finally, according to confirmation given by several exhibitors, important orders have been placed by department stores.

On an international level, there is a consistency in European buyers and above all the return of outside-Europe, with a notable 27% increase in Japanese and 8% more American buyers. Those from the Middle-East also placed some big orders, especially in the Studio and Private areas, where eveningwear brands have been very successful.

The Limited Fashion Store with Limits

Yes, the Limited Stores filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with the plans to sell assets as well as its brand name.  According to a Wall Street Journal article written by Lillian Rizzo and Peg Brickley on January 17, 2017, "But Limited was still able to snag an offer from an affiliate of Sycamore Partners for its brand name and related e-commerce assets, which will set a floor for a bankruptcy-run auction. The Limited brand will go to auction with a starting price of $25.75 million."

Wet Seal Closing All Stores

The popular teen retail fashion store Wet Seal is suddenly closing all of its 171 stores.

In a letter dated January 20 that was obtained by The Wall Street Journal, the apparel retailer notified employees working in the company's Irvine, California headquarters that the office was permanently shutting down and laying off all of its workers.

Wet Seal closed 338 of its 511 stores back in January 2015, shortly before the company filed for bankruptcy protection. 

By the way, as of this morning the website still appears to be available for shopping.

President Trump SOURCING at MAGIC

The Impact of President Trump and International Relations

Right Shoe Height

What is the right height for your shoes?  Well, that obviously depends on many factors.  One of which would be the activity or event you plan to attend.

How to measure the heel height of a shoe?  Many companies measure from the middle of the top of the heel at the back of the shoe through to the top of the heel cap (not all footwear companies measure the exact same way). The heel cap is usually about half a centimeter, in addition to the height of the heel.

Please understand that the heel heights aren't always exact. Heel height can depend on what size shoe you are, as well as other factors. So don't get upset if you take out your ruler and find that the advertised height is a millimeter off from the shoe you purchased.

If you’re not one for heels, ballet flats are a good option.

The 1.5" heel is your go-to heel height if you want a little lift. It's feminine but practical. 

A 2 inch stiletto heel provides enough lift to give your step a spring, but it’s not too high that the balls of your feet will be aching all day.

The 3 inch heel is what most would classify as a classic heel height.  Perfect for many occasions.

If you wish to be a bit more sassy, you can go with a four inch heel.  Fab for dinner parties.  This height can provide an elegant look of the shoe itself is also classy.  Keep in mind, you would now be walking at a higher angle.

When going to a higher heel, make sure to purchase a pair of shoes with good stability.

If you get up into the 6" range, you will look gorgeous, but this height of heel is not for everyone.  Be a high heel pro before going this high.

Let's keep in mind, height is not only in the heel.  Shoe inserts or shoe lifts can be used to help elevate the wearer.

It is suggested that you read a few.  Selected between low heels, mid heels, or high heels has many factors.  You may also want to hunt around for articles about heels that will make your legs look fantastic.  Yes, the height of the heel can help.

Gildan Aquires American Apparel

It appears that Gildan has won the bankruptcy auction.

Gildan wins a court-supervised auction to acquire the American Apparel brand and assets with a final cash bid of roughly $88 million.

Gildan Activewear Inc. (GIL: TSX and NYSE) announced on January 10, 2017 that it has emerged as the winner in the court supervised auction to acquire the American Apparel® brand and certain assets from American Apparel, LLC, (American Apparel). The transaction is subject to Bankruptcy Court approval on January 12, 2017 and Gildan anticipates completing the acquisition by early February.

The Company will provide details on the projected financial contribution of the acquisition on the Company’s earnings in February, when it reports its full year 2016 earnings results and initiates guidance for 2017.
