Not In Stock for Holiday 2021

Shoppers beware about holiday shopping for Christmas 2021.

Are we going to see out of stock notifications?

Out of Stock Clothing

Are you getting nervous that the fashion you want to purchase for holiday gifts in 2021 will be in the store when you need it?  Well, you are not alone.  The unprecedented supply chain disruption that has been taking place this year has been causing havoc for many industries.  The fashion industry is not excluded from the chaos.

Many months have passed by with long delays at the Los Angeles ports (and other ports around the country).  This has created a backlog of containers filled with clothing sitting out at sea as freight captains wait their turn to dock.

About the Bias Cut

In regard to cutting fabric or clothing the bias-cut is a cut obliquely or diagonally across the grain.

When working with woven textiles the grain refers to the orientation of the weft and warp threads. The three named grains are straight grain, cross grain, and the bias grain.  In sewing, a pattern piece can be cut from fabric in any orientation, and the chosen grain or orientation will affect the way the fabric hangs and stretches and thus the fit of a garment. Generally speaking a piece is said to be cut on a particular grain when the longest part of the pattern or the main seams of the finished piece are aligned with that grain.

  • Non-woven materials such as felt, interfacing or leather do not have a grain.

Dumping Unwanted Clothing

The BBC posted a fabulously scary report on pollution created by unwanted clothing, shoes, and fashion accessories.  "Fast Fashion: The dumping ground for unwanted clothes".Unwanted Clothes Pollution                 Photo Source: BBC article, link below.

The article advises us, "Fashion brands are overproducing to meet the demands of modern trends and countries in West Africa are drowning under the weight of waste shipped to their shores every week.".

BBC Africa's Thomas Naadi investigates why donations and recycled clothing are actually ending up in landfill.

You should view the video from the following:

In the opinion of Apparel Search, we have no doubt that excess clothing & products other than apparel are a huge concern for the environment.  Our question is where does the blame fall?  Is it the fashion industry or consumers that drive the problem?  Probably a bit of both.  Obviously it is the consumer that decides when it is time to purchase new clothing & when to discard old clothing.  The garment industry, electronics industry, auto industry, home builders, etc., produce based on product demand.  If consumers slowed purchases, manufacturers would slow production of new products.

If you are interested, you can also view our previous blog post about fashion industry pollution.

Is their a better way to recycle clothing?  Rather than going to a dump, shouldn't it go to a specialize facility to break it down to turn back into new fibers?
