Who's Next and Premiere Classe

Who's Next Trade Show 2017
The leading international professional fashion and accessories trade shows at the Porte de Versailles have closed the doors to their first event in 2017 on a positive note. The two trade shows have been a platform for a new-found energy, indicating an improved market dynamic.
platform for a new-found energy
A reassuring edition marked with the return of numerous leading buyers and boutique owners, efficient services for visitors, acclaimed conference programme and events; a positive general energy which reconnects the trade shows to their initial role: to stimulate the desire to buy, discover new brands, trigger sales and the flow of orders, and bring back together the fashion community.

Many different exhibitors from a range of sectors have noticed the arrival of new accounts as well as the upholding of their "regular" visitors. Nevertheless, the distributors have reduced the number of coworkers present, which explains a final visitor count of 45 192.
Who's Next Porte de Versailles
For the French market, one can note the return of multi-brand boutiques and selective concept stores such as Deschilder (Lille) for leather goods or Michard Ardillier (Bordeaux) for shoes. Also worth noting, is the arrival of new french buyers, new regional boutiques and/or e-shop's; finally, according to confirmation given by several exhibitors, important orders have been placed by department stores.

On an international level, there is a consistency in European buyers and above all the return of outside-Europe, with a notable 27% increase in Japanese and 8% more American buyers. Those from the Middle-East also placed some big orders, especially in the Studio and Private areas, where eveningwear brands have been very successful.

Yes, the Limited Stores filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with the plans to sell assets as well as its brand name.  According to a Wall Street Journal article written by Lillian Rizzo and Peg Brickley on January 17, 2017, "But Limited was still able to snag an offer from an affiliate of Sycamore Partners for its brand name and related e-commerce assets, which will set a floor for a bankruptcy-run auction. The Limited brand will go to auction with a starting price of $25.75 million."

Here is some of what we found at their website for those of you that may be their vendor.

President Trump SOURCING at MAGIC

The Impact of President Trump and International Relations

With President Trump now firmly in office, SOURCING at MAGIC will take a look at how the Trump administration may impact various free trade agreements and international trade relationships, at this February’s show in Las Vegas (February 20-23, 2017).
  • President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order as early as this week stating his intention to renegotiate the free trade agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico.
  • Last week, press secretary Sean Spicer said that President-elect Trump would not wait for Congress to confirm trade officials to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. He has called the trade deal "a potential disaster for our country."
  • Experts at SOURCING at MAGIC will analyze these issues and the cause and effect between the supply chain and recent challenges in the global economy, such as the elimination of TPP, the continued rise of costs in China and trade issues between the U.S. and China. They will also provide insight on what you can expect moving into 2017.
Known for always staying ahead of the trends, SOURCING at MAGIC will also highlight the bustling region of Africa with multiple factories and seminars at this February’s show.
  • Over the past couple years, serious interest in African countries as a major sourcing destination for apparel has grown. With the recent renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) through 2025, which allows certain countries in sub-Saharan Africa duty-free access to the US market, the buzz around Africa has become even louder.
  • Major companies including PVH, VF Corp, H&M, Primark and Tesco began sourcing a portion of their garments from this region a few years ago and it quickly made its way to the forefront as a region of opportunity for many apparel brands.
  • Africa offers a great solution for cost sensitive orders and the ability to create high quality products that are not time sensitive.
