Transcendent Boho-Chic

Transcendent Boho-Chic: A Journey Through the Timeless & Eclectic

Fashion is a form of self-expression, and the Transcendent Boho-Chic style embodies that sentiment beautifully. Rooted in the free-spirited ideals of the 1960s counterculture movement, Boho-Chic is a fashion style that remains a symbol of individuality and artistic flair. However, when we add "transcendent" to the equation, we unearth a fashion subculture that goes beyond trends, time, and boundaries, creating a truly unique and enduring sense of style.

The Roots of Boho-Chic

Boho-Chic, short for Bohemian-Chic, takes inspiration from the unconventional, artistic, and nomadic lifestyle of the bohemian community. The style reflects a love for all things eclectic and free-spirited, celebrating natural beauty and a non-conformist attitude. Boho-Chic fashion borrows elements from various cultures, incorporating flowing fabrics, ethnic prints, and vibrant colors.

Transcending Boundaries

What sets Transcendent Boho-Chic apart is its ability to transcend conventional fashion boundaries. It takes the core principles of Boho-Chic and elevates them to a new level of sophistication and timelessness. This style is not just a trend; it's an enduring embodiment of individuality and creative expression.

Tamara Magel Luxury Lifestyle Resort Line

Tamara Magel brings her worldly, eclectic, jet set aesthetic to the fashion world with her chic new luxury lifestyle resort collection.

Luxury interior designer Tamara Magel is bringing her globally eclectic and sophisticated style to the fashion world with her new collection of exotic caftans, day to evening dresses, beach bags, and clutches encompassing a chic bohemian lifestyle. On the heels of successfully opening her New York SoHo and East Hampton showrooms and as a featured designer in HC&G’s Holiday House in Bridge Hampton, Tamara’s passionate love affair with design continues. The obvious evolution was for Tamara to bring her distinctive designs out of the confines of beautiful homes and onto elegant, design-conscious women.

“I am in love with vibrant textiles and global culture, and expanding into fashion allows me to bring my bohemian style to modern and sophisticated women who desire the perfect balance between comfort and beauty,” says Tamara Magel. “By simply changing accessories throughout the day, my clothing can transition from home, to the beach, and even out to a dinner party.”

Tamara’s luxury lifestyle fashion collection builds upon her home collection that includes wallpaper, bedding, and home furnishings, and encompasses a laid-back beach chic vibe, and channels the cultural refinement of a veteran jet setter. Traces of Africa, India, Peru and Morocco are felt throughout the collection, as these are strong places of influence for Tamara. The collection boasts exceptional textiles from across the globe that range from imported European lace tops and Italian silk and cotton wrap dresses, to a rich, laser cut leather dress and accessories such as gorgeous hand-dyed beach bags and suede hand-beaded bags.

Tamara stays true to her exotic design aesthetic and pays homage to her interiors in her lifestyle fashion collection by drawing inspiration directly from her colorful and tribal tie-dye wallpaper in her beach bags and Italian silk and cotton wrap dresses. Each wrap dress can be worn both in the traditional wrap dress fashion or tied in the front, and comes in short and long options. Other notable pieces are the glamorous and girly laser cut tan leather dress, striped white snakeskin clutch, and deep v-neck maxi dresses that are perfect for bringing the Tamara Magel lifestyle woman from day to night. Prices range from $375 to $1,200.

Tamara’s interiors have been featured in many top design publications such as Architectural Digest, ELLE Décor, House Beautiful, the New York Times, and Lonny Magazine. Tamara Magel’s lifestyle fashion collection is available at www.tamaramagel.com and coming soon to fine retailers.

Nikole Powers and Christie Maruka Tips for Spring 2015

Consider these must have tips for the season ahead from celebrated stylists Nikole Powers of www.inhighdemandblog.com and Fashion Fix’s Christie Maruka www.fashionfixnj.com.
Nikole Powers
Spring Trend Watch 2015 from Nikole Powers

Jumper Elizabeth and James
Cream
Designers couldn't get enough of it. It’s less harsh then white for a softer look. Elizabeth and James got it right with this jumper too the perfect feminine/masculine.

Off the Shoulder
Off the Shoulder
Dress: Bcbg

There was a lot of falling off the shoulder, asymmetrical shoulder cuts and just plain off the shoulder dresses. Trade a plunging neck for some shoulder exposure. This spring Bcbg collection is flowy and simple.
Abstract Prints
Abstract Prints

Abstract prints and Mod are two peas in a pod.  I would definitely say 60’s are going to be influencing our Spring.

Metallics from Dion Lee
Metallics
Dress: Dion Lee
Another trend that seems to be resurfacing season after season is Metallics. I love the Modern feel of this Dress without it being to shiny.

Garden Party Florals
Garden Party Florals
Dress: Altuzarra

Spring is about color and flowers and there be Spring Florals to the end of time. Some designers leaned in a more oriental floral bouquet, while others did not. I love the color of this Altuzarra.

Mod fashion on the runway
Mod

I cannot get enough of this trend.  It plays in with the abstract prints. Groovy.

Tied Waist Sash on Runway
Tied Waist Sash
Dress: DVF

So much of this was on the runways. Almost all dresses were paired with a tied side sash like this with hanging ends. Love this DVF style!
Arctic Blue Dress
Arctic Blue

Love this icy blue color and it was all over the runways. My first buy for this will be a pair of trousers.
Crop Top
Crop Tops
Shirt and Pants: Donna Karan

They were here this year and they'll be here the next.  Multiple designers kept this style in their Spring 2015 looks. Donna Karen had some of my favorites.

Shirt Dress
Shirt Dresses

The Shirt Dress, simple and sexy. Easy to throw and casual. Pair it with a belt and some booties.

Sporty Alexander Wang
Sporty
Pants and Jacket: Alexander Wang

No one does sporty like Alexander Wang. Think sneakers, tennis skirts and bold colors. So Street Chic.
Coolots
Pants and Crop: Mara Hoffman

Coolots? I know. I mean seriously how comfortable do those look though? If you’re shorter I would wear with heels if you taller try with sandals for a laid back look.
Accordion Pleats
Accordion Pleats
Skirt and Shirt: Zimmerman

Pleats were rocked all over the Runways. Zimmerman created my favorite version of pleats. They were bold and structured. Alexander Wang pleats came in the version of tennis looking skirts and dresses. Either way you'll be seeing them. About Nikole Powers

Christie Maruka
Spring 2015 Top Trends from Christie Maruka

Spring 2015 had some stunning and very wearable trends. Some of the most popular trends on the runway were the following:

Crop Tops, Full skirts, high -waisted trousers, culottes, trench coats, Utilitarian vests and jackets, fluid drape dresses, Bohemian silhouettes, sheer fabrics, quilted pieces, cinched waists, lots of slouchy trends, ruffles and lace , shirt dresses and cape gowns..

There are so many designers to list, but here are some of my favorite designer shows I attended:

First was BCBG by Max Azria, whose line was stunning with lots of drape dresses, abstract floral prints, and bohemian silhouettes. Classic, enduring fabrications were modernized and softened for comfortable chic.  Beautiful pastel colors, lending a sun-bleached softness to this collection.. Always a favorite for me.
Marissa Webb, (creative director for Banana Republic) presented a mix of flowy-feminine mini-dresses topped with cargo vests, cool shirt dresses and great revamps of the classic trench.
Carmen Marc Valvo modern and clean, plunging necklines, playful pantsuits and sheer over-skirts. Valvo knows how to flatter a woman's figure.

Nicole Miller who played with a lot of ruffles, sewing them onto hems of skinny skirts and stretchy body con dresses and plenty of enticing tropical and floral prints.

Tadashi Shoji showed floor length skirts with crop tops, illusion backs on gowns, plenty of shirt dresses and trench coats, dresses with embroidery and stunning cape gowns.

Zimmerman by Nicky Zimmerman, a new line for me and absolutely gorgeous. Her collection was light and airy, lacy, layered slip dresses, wide-legged trousers with sexy off the shoulder men’s shirting, skirts with extended layers of ruffles, cinched-trench vests, and amazing swimwear too nice to swim in!
Mara Hoffman who came out with a softer direction this season pairing natural fabrics and a muted color palette. Featuring rainbow slip dresses, cutouts, sunbursts and striped motif on swimwear, slacks, maxi dresses and Relaxed Woven shirt and trouser sets.

More of my favorite shows, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson,  Trina Turk, Mark & Estel, Carolina Herrera, Altuzarra & Angel Sanchez.

One of the best moments of attending Fashion week is the inspiration I find on the streets of the most glamorous, high fashion city in the Country...NYC!  Since we can't wear the clothes being shown on the runway right now, we sure can wear the clothes I spotted on the streets... as we call it "street style".

We hope you have enjoyed this glimpse of Spring 2015 fashion.

Surfing the Fashion Wave

With so many different brands, styles, and designs of beachwear, the options are endless. While most think of the beach when considering surfer fashion, the beach-bum qualities that make the look can be part of all aspects of your wardrobe and lifestyle.

Surfing gear for in the water should allow you to stay comfortable, warm, and rash-free. While out of the water, you should express a relaxed, chic, and bohemian style.

Water Attire

The original men’s swimwear, swim trunks are still the most common men’s swimwear in North America. Since the 1930s, swim trunks began showing up on their own, without the top portion of a bathing suit. They're more likely to be shorter than board shorts, looser, and made from nylon, cotton, or polyester. They may be clingier than a board short, depending on the type and cut of the short. Usually, swim trunks are more water absorbent, sport an elastic waistband, and may or may not have a lace-up fly.

Because of the elastic band and the targeted demographic of adult, middle-aged and older men, swim trunks might be more comfortable and practical for your unique needs. You also may not be a fan of the length of board shorts, or where they sit on the hip (a bit lower because the hips hold them up; there is no elastic).

Board Shorts

Board shorts are a newer subset of men's swimwear that arose from the rising surf culture. Their name reflects their practical use for surfing, even referencing the surfboard. They're very quick to dry and don't get too baggy from holding excess water, due their polyester or nylon material. Usually longer than swim trunks, hitting just at the knee, a little above or a little below, they are very durable despite being lightweight. Board shorts typically have a lace-up fly in addition to a Velcro fly under that. In many cases, they have at least one side pocket.

Board shorts have a more youthful, sportier look and feel, and have become more popular in the current culture. Most designers and clothing companies create board shorts, as opposed to swim trunks, so the designs and patterns are more stylistically relevant. When buying surf shorts, whether board shorts or swim trunks, the most important features to consider are quick-drying, lightweight, durability, staying on the waist, pockets, and desired length.

Many female surfers have also taken to wearing board shorts. Typically shorter than their male counterparts, female board shorts provide more comfort and less likelihood of losing your bottoms after a gnarly wipeout. Like bikini bottoms, the mix-and-match appeals to ladies, as you can choose to pair a different top with different bottoms.

Bikinis

The bikinis you wear to the pool or laze in on the beach are very different from your surf bikini. A surf bikini must be more practical, should look for full coverage, and consider other big factors like sun exposure and fitting under a wetsuit or board shorts.
Women's Surfer Tops

Surfer bikini tops should fit comfortably and cover your chest fully. Water will move the top around, and the last thing you want is to fall out or need to adjust when riding a wave. The best option is either a sports bra style or triangle cut top. Avoid underwires, as, when you are paddling, they can poke and prod you. The straps should be fitted enough that they will not slide down your shoulders at all.

For bikini bottoms that you wear under board shorts or a wetsuit, consider a skimpier pair, even if you would never wear one like that on the beach, Anything with more fabric than a G-string or Brazilian cut will result in incredibly uncomfortable rolls of fabric that you will not be able to stop tugging at. You will be infinitely more comfortable if you consider wearing bottoms under the board shorts to prevent chafing or a rash.

When you want to surf in a bikini bottom, rather than shorts, there are a few things to consider. If you are surfing during the day, you have to do the sunscreen versus coverage debate. A small surf bikini bottom means you must use sunscreen or risk being burnt and have the possibility of skin cancer. A problem with sunscreen and surfing is that when you sit on your board to watch for waves, you will rub a nice little layer of sunscreen all over. This can lead to a slippery board, and a much more difficult time getting up on the wave.

Rash Guards

The most important factor for any surf attire is surf safety. Rash guards are one form to practice surf safety, as they protect the wearer against rashes caused by abrasion, or by sunburn from extended exposure to the sun. Typically, rash guards are worn by themselves over tops, or under a wetsuit. However, there are also lower body rash guards that look similar to compression shorts, which can be worn under surfers’ boardshorts or swim trunks.

Typically worn when the weather is too warm for a wetsuit, "rashies" also prevent wax-based chafing when sliding on and off of the surfboard. Rash guards can offer slight protection from jellyfish stings, making them a great addition, due to the many dangers found while surfing.

Land Attire
Beach Socks
Men

To create the ultimate surfer persona, there are a few lessons and tips to consider:

  1. Layer-Up. Throughout the day, your body temperature will fluctuate due to the water temperature, air temperature, chill factor, and wetness. Consider layering tanks and tees under hoodies and flannels.
  2. Mix and Match. Don’t be too worried about matching every color; instead consider a couple of different colors and shades, while keeping the same undertones.
  3. Casual and Cool. Keep the comfortable vibe throughout, with baggier fitted attire and easy to slide-on shoes, such as sandals or surfers.
  4. Standout Socks. Every surfer needs a pair of funky patterned socks to add a bit of an extra flair for the relaxed and carefree style.
  5. Accessorize. Consider adding some cool shades, a chic beanie or hat, and other accessories to complete the ultimate cool dude look.
Women

Ladies have a multitude of options to wear on the boardwalk, at the beach, or just casually strolling through town. Here are a few ideas to create the ultra-bohemian style surfer girl look:
  1. Patterns. Consider a patterned dress or romper to slide over your bikini post surf session for an easy, classic look.
  2. Graphic Tees and Tanks. The slogan tee or free flowing tank should be a part of any beach babe collection to make a splashy statement.
  3. Sexy Shorts. Most places won’t allow you to wear your bikini bottoms without something covering them up, so consider sexy patterned short shorts or the cute crochet short to cover up.
  4. Eye-Catching Cover-ups. Cover-ups can be another quick and easy fix to throw on over any swimsuit for a quick run to the snack shack or to avoid the glaring rays of the sun.

  5. Sunglasses. From aviators to sporty to oversized, don’t leave home without a pair of fashionable sunglasses to protect your eyes.
