They cover hundreds of miles each week and spend countless amounts of hours in shelters to save as many dogs as they can. Wags and Walks has successfully placed hundreds of dogs in their forever homes, and have worked with the following celebs & organizations: New Mark Models, Ashley Benson, Chevrolet, Oscars 2016 (E! The CMC established the July 29th event as a means to integrate community-building and social-consciousness into its public fashion events, teaming up with Wags and Walks who shares in the CMC's desire to help increase awareness for the ethical treatment of animals.

 "Wags and Walks is thrilled to partner with the CMC.  Our goals align seamlessly towards furthering our mission," said Kathryn Hurley, Development Coordinator for Wags and Walks.  "I know this relationship will not only lead to more dogs being adopted, but also stronger educators and advocates regarding the importance of pet rescue.  Plus, what is better than fashion and a puppy kiss!?"

This is just the first of many more, new community events to come."

Open to the general public, admission to the event is a $5.00 cash donation (per person) with all proceeds being donated to Wags and Walks. Activewear & Lifestyle Tradeshow March 2016

ALT (Activewear & Lifestyle Tradeshow) debuted as a soft re-launch in conjunction with Los Angeles Fashion Market, March 14-16, 2016 at the CMC (California Market Center).  Formerly known as “Shape”, ALT was rebranded as downtown LA’s resource for West Coast-inspired Contemporary active and lifestyle brands.

Held in the CMC’s Penthouse event space, the newly rebranded ALT featured a tightly curated selection of 13 hand-picked exhibitors who have set the tone for the direction of resources buyers can expect to see from this show.  Resources included Contemporary activewear and yoga collections, accessories, swimwear, and basics collections appropriate for street or gym.  Brands included Nux Activewear, Jala Clothing, Sthenos Activewear, Bombshell Sportswear, Cantiq LA Handmade Intimate Apparel, Pheel, Joriki, Aimee M, Bodi Bodi, Mine Label, J.Lew Bags, and more.

Exhibitors emphasized the quality of buyers they met and  unexpected crossover traffic from TRANSIT Shoe Show and Coeur Accessories Show also held in the CMC’s Penthouse.  First-time exhibitor Kristine Miller Marks, Brand Manager for Sthenos Activewear and Bombshell Sportswear noted:  “We have had a really good show this week.  Honestly we didn't know who would show up or what to expect since the major markets just passed but to our surprise there was a good flow of quality buyers who have placed nice size opening orders which we all know leads to more business.  We will be back!”

ALT’s targeted retailer efforts brought in quality buyers from a relevant mix of fitness studios, resorts and spas, lifestyle boutiques, and fashion retailers looking for athleisure collections.  Visitors included A Tropical Affair Santa Barbara, Ambiance Stores, Avalon, Barre 3, Bhody, Brentwood Country Club, Burro, C.Jane, Catalina Gear, Clover, Emphatic - Fred Segal, Essenza Boutique, Fifty Six, Forever 21, Four Seasons Hotel Beverly Wilshire, Fresh Produce, Gypsy Den Boutique, Harmony Studios, Hip'tique, Island Farm, Island Outfitters, Jag Gym, Kaitlyn Clothing Inc, La Boutique, LF Stores, Luxe Lingerie, M. "ALT is a great show that is both beneficial and easy to digest for up-and-coming brands. Their team has gone above and beyond to support my brand's development and success in the show," said Chelsea Hughes, Founder & Creative Director for returning exhibitor Cantiq LA.  "This is my third show [the first two exhibiting at “Shape”] and I’ve written some great orders and have made some great, new contacts. Additionally, I have seen a lot of traffic from their marketing that has filtered through to my website and various online platforms."

"The show was a great capsule sized look at what’s happening in the small athleisure business segment," noted Aimee Laurel of Business of Athleisure, who identified Nux Activewear, Pheel, and Uintah Collection as stand-out brands.

The next edition of ALT is slated for June 6-8, 2016 to run in conjunction with LA Fashion Market at the CMC.

High Turn Out at LA Fashion Market Fall 2016

LA Fashion Market Fall 2016 was presented to buyers at the CMC (California Market Center), March 14-17, 2016, with participating showrooms open early on Sunday, March 13, for buyer appointments.  Showrooms and exhibitors reported seeing an unexpected turnout of quality buyers and new accounts, despite the Market’s close proximity to the end of February’s Vegas shows.

“I had a few great accounts come in that I could actually work and enjoy giving the special attention that my accounts need and deserve. Vegas can be overwhelming and orders sometimes are written but not thought out as well as they could have been. We wrote great orders. I also opened new accounts that would not have stopped in to review the line in Vegas,” said Mike Bowling of the Sympli Showroom in Suite A339.

“This Market was amazing because of the quality of retailers, including Revolve, Nasty Gal, Sunny Days, The Finery, Modcloth, and Sahalie,” noted David Perlman of PerlmanRep Showroom in Suite B535.

Other notable retailers in attendance included 7 For All Mankind, A Bit Unruly, A Tropical Affair, Adornments, Amazon.com, Ambiance, Balboa Bay Resort, Brentwood Country Club, Brigade LA, Burro, C.Jane, Camouflage, Canopy Blue, Clover, Costco, Details Boutique, Eighten, Emphatic - Fred Segal, Fairen Del, Forever 21 Inc, Four Seasons Hotel Beverly Wilshire, Fresh Produce, Habit Footwear & Accessories, Hip'tique, Holly Hill, Island Farm, Island Outfitters, Kaitlyn Clothing Inc, La Boutique, LF Stores, M. Fredric, Mamselle,  Manhattan Denim, Marshall Retail Group / Marshall Russo, My Sale Group, Nest, Peppermill Hotel Casino, Perspectives Inc., Phyllisophical, Pink Lagoon, Ruth Waters Fine Fashions, Seaside Gallery And Goods, Seaside Luxe, Seed People's Market, Sole Society, Solestruck, Splendid / Ella Moss, Sunny Days Retail Inc., Swirl, Terra Verde, The LBD Etc., The Red Balloon, Therapy, Tootsies, Tucson Racquet & Fitness Club, Twig & Willow, Upstairs at Pierre Lafond, Verona, W Scottsdale, Wynn Las Vegas, and Zyl Collection, to name a few.

This Market also featured a soft launch for the rebranded ALT (Activewear & Lifestyle Tradeshow) in the CMC’s Penthouse.  The showcase was tightly curated to present retailers with Contemporary activewear and lifestyle collections reflective of the West Coast lifestyle.  Brands included Nux Activewear, Jala Clothing, Sthenos Activewear, Bombshell Sportswear, Cantiq LA Handmade Intimate Apparel, Pheel, Joriki, Aimee M, Bodi Bodi, Mine Label, and J.Lew Bags.  The show attracted an additional mix of fitness studios, resorts, and fashion buyers looking for crossover athleisure collections, including Barre 3, Bhody, Catalina Gear, Gypsy Den Boutique, Harmony Studios, Jag Gym, Luxe Lingerie, Mission Inn Gift Shop, Mn8 Salon & Day Spa, Montage Laguna Beach, New Leaf Skin Care, Nordic Athletes, On Your Feet / Get It Together, Outdoor & Down, Seaside Luxe, Southwestern Yacht Club, Sports 4 U, St Francis Yacht Club, Storm Sports, Studio Den, The Beauty Shack, and The Club, among many others.
Activewear Lifestyle Tradeshow at CMC

“We have had a really good show this week.  Honestly we didn't know who would show up or what to expect since the major markets just passed but to our surprise there was a good flow of quality buyers who have placed nice size opening orders,” said Kristine Marks of Sthenos Activewear & Bombshell Sportswear at ALT.

Sharing space with ALT in the Penthouse, A-wing, was TRANSIT Shoe Show, the footwear resource for LA Fashion Market buyers.  Featuring key footwear brands like The Frye Company, Steve Madden, Vince Camuto, Keds, Seychelles, Matisse, this show also saw the debut of TRANSIT Kids, a new children’s footwear pavilion catering to footwear buyers and buyers visiting the LA Kids Market Showroom on the 6th floor.  Notable brands included Ash Footwear for Kids, Polo Ralph Lauren Kids, Feiyue, Emu Australia, Pedi-Ped, Robees, and others.

Across from TRANSIT and ALT in the Penthouse, B-wing, buyers found the debut of COEUR Accessories, Gifts, Home & Lifestyle Tradeshow at the CMC, featuring Contemporary accessories & lifestyle brands like Zadig & Voltaire, Philo, Jennie Kwon, Chie Mihara, Love Tanjane, and Saint Olio, plus many others.

Rounding out the Market was SELECT Tradeshow, which filled the Fashion Theater in the CMC Lobby with a curated mix of premium brands like Magaschoni, Marcia Moran, Vyda Victoria, Z&L Europe, Hobo Original Bags, Latigo Footwear, Theia Jewelry, and more.

The next Los Angeles Fashion Market is scheduled for June 6-9, 2016, and will again feature SELECT Tradeshow, TRANSIT Shoe Show, TRANSIT Kids, and the LA Kids Market.  Coeur Fall dates to be announced.

Spring/Summer 2016 LA Kids Market at CMC

The Spring/Summer 2016 LA Kids Market will take place on the 6th floor A Wing of the California Market Center (CMC) August 3-6. Sunday, August 2nd will be open for showroom appointments. In addition to the debut of Spring 2016 lines, August Market will feature the opening of new showrooms, as well as the return of Kids Shoe Association.

Mayra's Collections, a new showroom, represents contemporary brands such as Mini Rodini, Akid, Young Soles, Rock Your Baby, Bang Bang Copenhagen, and more. "We received so many inquiries from stores on the West Coast needing more brands like ours," says Mayra Cano, Owner of Mayra's Collections. "It was something we knew we had to do. The CMC is the only place we would want to be showing. It's the best; there was never any other option for us."

Buyers cannot only expect to see new lines, but full, unedited collections of well-known and designer brands from across the world. For example, European showroom, Group Zannier, will be showing Spring/Summer 2016 collections of Catimini, 3Pommes, IKKS, Jean Bourget - as well as Junior Gaultier, Paul Smith Jr, Kenzo Kids, and Tartine et Chocolat.

"August Market is a major show for many reasons," says Stephanie LaRussa of Group Zannier. "The first is that being a European showroom, we begin our selling season early (July) and need to submit all orders for early production that begins in the Fall. The second is that we showcase our Spring/Summer collections, which are very important to our region where the warm-weather months dominate the colder ones."

In conjunction with LA Kids Market, the Kids Shoe Association (KSA) will return and host an incredible list of Kids footwear brands in one easy to shop location for buyers. KSA will take place on the 6th Floor C Wing Monday and Tuesday, August 3 and 4.

"We are looking forward to developing a regular customer base and their understanding that we will be here every Market, making it a destination show for their buying needs," says Kim Kenson of KSA. "The exhibitors loved the space and layout at the last Show, as did our retailers. We also had a significant number of cross-over buyers stop in from different markets taking place in the building."

"Our hope is that these retailers take advantage of LAKM and KSA as a resource to find additional products and brands they can add to their merchandise assortment and increase their point of sale transactions," says Sandra Martinez of In Play Showroom. "In today's world, the consumer is looking for something fresh and new and I feel that the edition of KSA is the perfect opportunity to discover what that exactly that may be."

In addition to footwear resources found in permanent showrooms throughout LA Kids Market, KSA will feature solid retuning brands- such as Saltwater Sandals, Skechers, JambuKD, Michael by Michael Kors, and Clarks Kids. Blowfish girls and Vince Camuto Kids will be joining the impressive roster as well.

LA Kids Market will take place Monday - Thursday, August 3-6, 2015 for the Spring/Summer 2016 Season.

Macy's, Continues Evolution with Changing Consumer Landscape

Merchandising and marketing to be restructured for single omnichannel view of business; Store and field organization adjustments supporting M.O.M. strategies; $140 million in savings to be reinvested primarily in technology, talent and business development.

Macy's, Inc. yesterday announced a series of initiatives to evolve its business model and invest in continued growth opportunities as consumers change the way they shop.  Actions include a restructuring of merchandising and marketing functions at Macy's and Bloomingdale's consistent with the company's omnichannel approach to retailing, as well as a series of adjustments to its field and store operations to increase productivity and efficiency.

With changes being announced yesterday, Macy's, Inc. will be increasing its workforce in some functions and locations while decreasing in others so all of the company's resources can be deployed for maximum results. In total, the Macy's, Inc. workforce is expected to remain at a level of approximately 175,000 associates.

Restructuring in Merchandising/Marketing:

Both Macy's and Bloomingdale's are restructuring their respective central merchandising and marketing functions so each brand can develop and present its assortments seamlessly across channels and provide a single omnichannel view in all product categories. Going forward, one unified merchandising and marketing organization - a hybrid of store and online buying - will support the entire Macy's business to encourage both store and digital growth. The same is true at Bloomingdale's. Previously, store and online assortments were bought and marketed by separate organizations at Macy's and at Bloomingdale's. These changes support continued growth and an enhanced shopping experience online and via mobile, as well as in stores.

Simultaneously, Macy's will make selected changes to its merchandising-related functions in local districts (administrative grouping of Macy's stores) around the country as it continues to improve its ability to localize assortments by size, color, fabric weight, style, fit, category and brand. The company will discontinue district planner positions and reinvest in new regional teams devoted to specific themes of merchandise localization. These teams will intensify Macy's successful warm-weather strategies, as well as address topics such as meeting the needs of more traditional customers who live in northern climate zones, and better understand and support the diverse needs of multicultural customers. Macy's field team will continue to represent a significant competitive advantage in reacting quickly to changes in customer demand and in gaining market share.
These changes in merchandising and marketing are expected to affect approximately 115 associates in Macy's and Bloomingdale's central offices in New York City, as well as about 150 associates in local markets nationwide. The company is working to place as many affected associates as possible in other open positions.
Adjustments in Stores/Field
Macy's and Bloomingdale's are adjusting certain aspects of store and field operations and refocusing the staffing in each store location to facilitate growth, increase productivity and improve efficiency. Selling service and support is being modified to match business opportunity in each department. An average of two to three associates will be affected in each of Macy's and Bloomingdale's approximately 830 stores (out of an average workforce of approximately 150 associates in each store), for a total of about 2,200 affected associates nationwide. The company is working to place as many affected associates as possible in other open positions.
Also, two existing Macy's stores districts are being merged into nearby districts - thus reducing the ongoing number of stores districts to 58 from the current 60.
Growth Investments Planned for 2015
The company will reinvest savings from merchandising, marketing, store and field initiatives so it can continue to invest for growth as it focuses its resources and molds its business model around emerging customer preferences. Plans for 2015 include:
  • Creating a team within the company to explore potential opportunities for a Macy's off-price business. While this exploration is in its early stages, the company believes that Macy's omnichannel infrastructure and insight could lead to innovative ways to deliver value to additional segments of the customer marketplace.

  • Continued progress in digital retailing, including further developing the technology, speed and customer experience of macys.com and bloomingdales.com as they are accessed via desktop, smartphones, tablets and apps. In 2015, Macy's is expected to grow its San Francisco-based digital technology organization by hiring more than 150 people.
  • Advancements in business systems and information technology, including security infrastructure, to deliver the information and functionality required to support a growing Omnichannel business.
  • Increasing direct-to-consumer fulfillment capacity in every full-line Macy's and Bloomingdale's store and at the five existing dedicated fulfillment centers located in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Tennessee and West Virginia. In addition, as many as 1,500 new year-round and seasonal associates will be hired this year at a new 1.3 million-square-foot direct-to-consumer fulfillment center now being built in Tulsa County, OK. Initial operations at the Tulsa facility are expected to begin in April 2015, with a total workforce of more than 2,500 associates (1,500 year-round associates and more than 1,000 holiday seasonal associates) expected in future years as the fulfillment center reaches full capacity.
  • Opening new Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Bloomingdale's Outlet stores as opportunities arise in new and existing markets. New stores to be opened in fall 2015, as previously announced, include a Macy's in Ponce, PR, which will employ about 275 associates, as well as a new Bloomingdale's in Honolulu, with an expected workforce of 250 associates.
Store Closings/Openings

The company announced two new stores yesterday:
  • A three-story Bloomingdale's of 150,000 square feet will be added in an expansion of Westfield Valley Fair Shopping Center in San Jose, CA. The all-new Bloomingdale's store is expected to open in fall 2017 and employ an estimated 250 associates. Westfield Valley Fair's current anchors include a Macy's women's store, a Macy's men's/home store and a Nordstrom. This will be Bloomingdale's third store in northern California, joining Westfield San Francisco Centre in downtown San Francisco (opened in 2006) and Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto (originally opened in 1996 with a new replacement store opened in October 2014).
  • Macy's will build a new 155,000-square-foot store on two levels to replace its existing 136,000-square-foot Westfield Century City location in Los Angeles, CA, which was opened in 1976. The existing Macy's will be closed in January 2016 and razed to accommodate new development in the mall. The all-new Macy's, expected to open in November 2016, will be built in a highly visible location along Santa Monica Boulevard. Westfield Century City also includes an existing Bloomingdale's store which will be completely remodeled in 2016 and connected to new development in the mall.
Seven other new Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores are currently planned and/or under construction, as previously announced.
  • New Macy's stores will be opening in:
    • Plaza Del Caribe, Ponce, PR (150,000 square feet; to open in fall 2015; approximately 275 associates);
    • Ka Makana Ali'i, Kapolei, HI (103,000 square feet; to open in fall 2016; approximately 180 associates).
    • Mall at Miami Worldcenter, Miami, FL (195,000 square feet; to open in fall 2017; approximately 150 associates).
  • New Bloomingdale's stores will be opening in:
    • Ala Moana, Honolulu, HI (167,000 square feet; to open in fall 2015; approximately 250 associates);
    • Mall at Miami Worldcenter, Miami, FL (120,000 square feet; to open in fall 2017; approximately 225 associates).
In addition, new Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores are planned to open in Al Maryah Central in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in 2018 under license agreements with Al Tayer Group.

The company also is announcing that it will close the following 14 Macy's stores (out of a current total of about 790 Macy's stores) in early spring 2015. Final clearance sales will begin on Monday, Jan. 12 and run for between eight to 12 weeks.

  • Metro Center, Phoenix, AZ (107,000 square feet; opened in 1973; 88 associates);
  • Cupertino Square Mall, Cupertino, CA (177,000 square feet; opened in 1997; 111 associates);
  • Promenade (main store), Woodland Hills, CA (192,000 square feet; opened in 1993; 112 associates);
