Nikki Reed Hosts The Baja Animal Sanctuary Charity Event
Nikki Reed and fellow Hollywood animal enthusiasts gathered at
the 1st annual "Friends Across The Border" charity event last night at
NINE ZERO ONE Salon in West Hollywood to raise money for the Baja Animal
Sanctuary, northern Mexico's only no-kill animal shelter! Other
celebrity attendees included socialite Cara Santana and radio
personality Kyle Keller, along with other prominent Hollywood
animal supporters. Guests indulged in gluten-free catering from cibo
verde and beverages by Caliche Rum as they celebrated
the wonderful work done by the Baja Animal Sanctuary and its
founder Sunny Benedict.
Guests bid on silent auction items including accessory, fashion, beauty and lifestyle products from Kara Ackerman Designs, Tacori, Carlos Antonio for Charlie, Nola Singer, Juicy Couture, Marigot Collection, HydroPeptide, Kate Somerville, UNITE, Forever Living Products, Sun Kissed by Jenni, KAI, Soul Cycle, Pilates Plus, Oak Fitness, cibo verde, Gro-O, SodaStream, Jonathan Adler, LA Galaxy tickets, The Ellen DeGeneres Show tickets and much more! Animal items included packages to Chateau Marmutt, a subscription to BarkBox and P.L.A.Y. All proceeds from the night went directly to the Baja Animal Sanctuary.
The Baja Animal Sanctuary is located in Rosarito, Mexico, just 23 miles south of the San Ysidro border. The sanctuary was founded in 1997 by Sunny Benedict, a native New Yorker, who was working in real estate in Rosarito. From her office window, Sunny would see the local animals, mangy and starving roaming the streets in search of anyone who might toss them a morsel of food, or give them a kind pat on the head. She knew she had to do something. With a mere $180 she gathered from friends, she turned her dream into reality and started the Baja Animal Sanctuary. BAS, the only no-kill shelter in northern Mexico provides a safe haven for dogs and cats rescued from the streets of Rosarito and surrounding areas. Once at BAS, they receive food, medical care, and love for as long as they are there. Once the puppies are old enough, or the sick ones are well enough, they are spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The ultimate goal is to find each and every adoptable animal at BAS a forever home. When this can't be accomplished, since it is a no-kill shelter, the animals that are "un-adoptable" will make BAS their permanent home. In some extreme cases, untreatable dogs and cats are euthanized to put an end to their pain and/or suffering. In 2012 BAS placed 276 dogs and 42 cats in loving homes throughout the United States. Presently, the Sanctuary is home to over 400 dogs and cats combined. The Baja Animal Sanctuary was officially incorporated in the year 2000. OK, I understand it is only July 7th and the month has only just begun. But simply could not wait to post a few celebrity spottings for the month.
Lily Collins was photographed wearing Junk Food clothing brand in Los Angeles on July 5th. The Last Tycoon actress sported her Basquiat 1960 Pullover Hoodie leaving a morning pilates class.
Actress Nikki Reed was captured this past Friday afternoon wearing awear sunglasses as she walked hand-in-hand with husband Ian Somerhalder! The former Twilight & Sleepy Hollows star was photographed wearing sunglasses style #3717 in CR ($199; www.awearcharmant.com) while packing on the PDA and browsing the shops on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California.
