About The Chuck Taylor All Star II

Have you heard about the Chuck II from converse?  The Chuck Taylor All Star II features arch support, padded tongues and even more updates with comfort in mind.
Chuck Taylor All Star II

The Chuck Taylor All Star II sneakers are arriving to stores on July 28, 2015. The shoe has the similar appearance as it's predecessor but it does have a few improvements in regard to comfort.  The sneaker features Nike's Lunarlon cushion with arch support, a padded tongue (padded non-slip tongue for 360 degree comfort around the ankle and instep), and a higher quality canvas. The premium canvas used for the Chuck II sneaker is for a high quality touch and texture. Possibly a few other improvements tossed into the mix as well.

It appears that the goal is to keep the converse look, but infuse it with Nike technology.  Keep in mind, Nike owns Converse.

For those of you that love your original Chuck Taylor's don't panic just yet.  We are fairly certain that they will be selling the original Chuck as well as the Chuck II's (at least for now).

The Chuck Taylor was never gone, so it really can't technically be coming back, but they sure can be improving.
The Chuck Taylor All Star II Back View
By the way, Converse had a pre-sale with limited edition Chuck II sneakers. The tease read like this, "The Limited Edition and collectible Chuck Taylor All Star II sneakers are now on pre-sale. Each pair is individually numbered and delivered in exclusive, Limited Edition packaging. Order now before they’re gone. Limit one pair per order.".  Guess what?  Yup, they appear to already be sold out.

If you happen to get a pair of The Chuck Taylor All Star II limited edition 2015 sneakers, the inside tongue of the shoe will look like this.
The Chuck Taylor All Star II Limited Edition

It all started with a simple idea: obsession. Converse obsessed with creative spirits and realized they wanted more. A sneaker that meets the demands of their “on the go” lifestyle. The following image showcases what makes the Chuck Taylor All Star II different than any Chuck Taylor you have ever seen before.
Lunarlon Sockliner for Chuck II

The Nike Lunarlon Sockliner provides responsive and lightweight cushioning.

Lunarlon technology debuted in two new shoes in time for the summer of 2008 in Beijing, the Nike Lunaracer for the marathon and Nike Hyperdunk for basketball. Athletes of all levels loved the way Lunarlon minimized impact while providing both spring and support.  In 2008 the Nike LunarGlide debuted with Dynamic Support, a two-part midsole system developed to provide stability and cushioning. Lunarlon was the perfect soft density foam to cushion runners’ heel impact, while a firmer density foam wedge helped stabilize pronation as the foot flexed down.

Nike designers Kevin Hoffer and Eric Avar put their heads together to confront a challenge. Marathon runners typically take around 40,000 steps from start to finish – they needed a shoe to withstand the relentless impact and to put a spring in their stride. Meanwhile, elite basketball players needed a shoe to cushion their high-impact jumping and provide quick push-off for explosive changes of direction.  Now lovers of Chuck Taylor sneakers can take advantage of this comfort and performance.  Learn more about the Lunarlon Sockliner at the Nike website.

The new shoes also have a super soft micro-suede lining.  The are perforated for maximized comfort.  Here is what it looks like.

I wonder if the Simpson's Chuck Taylor collection will get an upgrade as well.

Let's take a few moments to step inside the new sneaker.

Wholesale Shoe Company Lawsuit Against Retailers

Should manufacturers or wholesalers sue potential channels of distribution?

Converse is suing 31 companies, arguing they are copying the design of its trademark shoe.  The company filed lawsuits against big retailers such as Wal-Mart and H&M, just to name a few, for allegedly selling imitations of its famous Chuck Taylor sneaker.  Other defendants named by Converse include Kmart, Skechers (SKX), Aldo Group and Ralph Lauren.  The Nike subsidiary also wants the International Trade Commission to ban imports and sales of the shoes.

Converse chief executive Jim Calhoun said the company welcomed fair competition, but "we do not believe companies have a right to copy the Chuck's trademarked look".  The shoe company also stated that they have served about 180 cease and desist letters to retailers selling look-a-like Chuck Taylor sneakers in the past six years to protect its brand.

For those of you that think Converse is crazy, keep in mind that approximately two years ago the luxury shoemaker Louboutin successfully trademarked its distinctive red soles.  Yes, this is an entirely different case, but who knows…  Trademark law is for a large part about whether the ordinary consumer would be confused as to the source of the good when they look at it.

Do you think that Converse will win this case?

Do you think that Converse should win this case?

In my opinion this is an uphill battle, but anything is possible.

Is it a good idea for wholesalers such as Nike to issue lawsuits against retail companies such as Walmart?  Keep in mind that Nike owns more brands than only Nike & Converse.  Should the retailers being sued ban all of the Nike owned brands from their stores both now and in the future?

By the way, we do love Chuck Taylor sneakers.  They really are iconic.

Learn more about Nike and the brands that they own here on the Apparel Search fashion guide.  You should also visit their site to find more information and buy yourself a new pair of Chuck Taylor’s.

The Current State of the Collectible Shoe Market: Trends in Value

In recent years, the collectible shoe market has experienced both upward and downward trends in values, influenced by various factors, including inflation. This article explores the dynamics of the market, the impact of inflation, and highlights the most collectible footwear brands and historically coveted sneakers.

The Influence of Inflation on Collectible Sneaker Values

Inflation has emerged as a significant factor affecting the collectible sneaker market. While some aspects of inflation have had a positive impact, others have introduced challenges:

Positive Effects of Inflation:

Investment Appeal: As inflation erodes the purchasing power of traditional currencies, tangible assets like collectible sneakers have gained appeal as hedges against inflation. Investors seek alternative stores of value, driving up demand for rare and iconic sneakers.

Global Reach: Inflation is often a global phenomenon, and as sneaker collecting becomes a worldwide hobby, collectors from different countries are willing to pay higher prices for these coveted items, further boosting values.

Taylor Swift Fashion in China & U.S. Mall at JD.com

The title of this blog post may be a bit confusing.  Let me clarify that this is regarding China, even though it says “U.S. Mall”.  In summary, the Chinese retailer has created a segment of their website referenced as the U.S. Mall to sell product from USA brands.  However, it is regarding the sale of product in China.  If you read below, it should become more clear.

As reported on Bloomberg earlier this week, Taylor Swift is teaming up with JD.com Inc, to sell a new fashion line designed specifically for Chinese shoppers.  Dresses, sweatshirts and other tops will be available in August 2015 on the website, ahead of Swift’s “1989” tour visit to Shanghai in November 2015.  JD.com is one of the largest e-commerce companies in China.

JD is hoping that this project with Taylor Swift will help them expand deeper into the clothing segment.

The company also announced plans on Monday for a “U.S. mall,” an area of its site devoted to American products.

According to the Bloomberg article, “JD shares have climbed 85 percent since their initial public offering in May 2014. The stock fell 0.7 percent to $35.06 at the close in New York on Monday.”

Below you will find the full news about the Taylor Swift clothing product with JD.com

JD.com (Nasdaq:JD), China's largest online direct sales company, announced July 20, 2015 it will be the first authorized seller of Taylor Swift merchandise in China. The new JD.com store will be the official online source of Taylor Swift items featuring select, high-quality goods, including a new fashion line the music superstar designed specifically for the Chinese market.

Ms. Swift announced the news in a video released July 20th.

"JD.com is delighted to become the sole online source of authentic, high-quality Taylor Swift merchandise," said Richard Liu, JD.com founder and CEO. "She is an enormously popular artist and true global cultural icon who is winning over thousands of new fans in China each day. It is gratifying to be recognized as China's online shopping platform of choice for those who value authenticity and quality."

"JD.com is simply the one and only e-commerce site where shoppers in China can be assured they will get only authentic Taylor Swift products that meet the high quality standards her fans deserve," said Mark McDonald, Chairman of Heritage66 Company, Taylor Swift's Nashville-based partner company that will host her products on JD.com. "We are excited to unveil a Taylor Swift Fashion line exclusively on JD.com later this summer."

Clothing from the new Taylor Swift fashion line will include high-quality dresses, sweatshirts and tops and will be available next month on JD.com. The line was designed exclusively for the Chinese market with local consumers in mind, and will only be available for sale in China and on JD.com. The styles were created by Taylor Swift in partnership with Heritage66 Company, which represents American artists seeking to expand their reach in China.

Taylor Swift will bring her 1989 World Tour Concert November 10-12, 2015 to Shanghai.

Below is more information about the “U.S. mall” planned for the JD.com website.

JD.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:JD), China's largest online direct sales company, on July 20, 2015 announced the launch of its U.S. Mall, a new channel on the company's JD Worldwide cross-border platform dedicated exclusively to offering authentic imported U.S. products for sale to its customers in China.

Kicking off its push with American brands, JD.com announced on July 20, 2015 that it will feature authentic products from Taylor Swift including a fashion line that the artist is designing exclusively for JD's customers. The products will be sold through the Heritage66 Company flagship store operated by the Nashville-based company that partners with Taylor Swift and other leading celebrities who are looking to tap into the China market. In addition, some of the recently signed American brands that JD.com features include Converse, Samsonite, Ocean Spray and several major apparel labels that are part of the Global Brands Group (SEHK:787), including Nautica Kids and Jeep apparel (The Global Brands Group started in 2005 when Li & Fung established a wholesale business focusing on private label and branded apparel in order to broaden its relationships with existing and new retailer customers).

JD.com also announced a partnership with DHL Global Forwarding to help American brands ensure that their products reach Chinese consumers more quickly and easily. Through this partnership, DHL is the preferred logistics service provider for moving American products ordered on JD.com's U.S. Mall to and across China.

The launch event, hosted by JD.com founder and CEO Richard Liu, included several hundred representatives from major U.S. brands, including Mark McDonald, chairman of Heritage66 Company.

"As American companies increasingly understand our core advantages of zero tolerance towards counterfeits and unparalleled same-day delivery capabilities, we are gaining excellent momentum attracting U.S. brands to our site," said Mr. Liu. "Chinese consumers appreciate that the United States is a global leader in the areas of product reputation, quality, reliability and variety of goods, and American companies are clearly benefiting from this unprecedented market opportunity. That’s why we are so pleased to be bringing Taylor Swift’s new fashion line to China through our partnership with Heritage66 Company.

"With JD.com's U.S. Mall up and running, and great partners like Global Brands on board, Chinese consumers have an ever-growing range of new choices of American products, including Nautica Kids and Converse. We couldn't be happier to be working with DHL, a brand synonymous with superior international logistics, to help get these products into the hands of Chinese consumers with the speed and reliability our customers have come to expect."

"With increasing demand for 'Made in America' products, Chinese consumers are buying American products from JD.com at an exponential rate, with exports from the U.S. into China in 2014 totaling over $123 billion," said Alfred Goh, Senior Vice President & Global Head, Fast Growing Enterprises, DHL Customer Solutions and Innovation. "With our full suite of logistics solutions, DHL is well positioned to provide Chinese consumers with easy access to U.S.-made products, while improving overall supply chain efficiency for the retailers. All consumers globally expect their orders to arrive promptly and our extensive network and reliability will help JD.com extend quality service to its customers."

"We are thrilled to be partnering with JD.com, the leading platform for upwardly mobile Chinese consumers seeking quality American brands and products," said Bruce Rockowitz, CEO and Vice Chairman of Global Brands Group Holding Limited. "Online shopping has become an increasingly important trend in the Chinese market. Through our strategic partnership with JD.com, we look forward to making even more leading American brands available through this innovative platform."

At a Beijing event earlier this year with U.S. Ambassador to China Max Baucus, the company launched a trial offering of fresh produce including Boston lobster, California wines and fruit from the U.S., and food products from brands including Ocean Spray, Ghirardelli, Silk, Starbucks, Organic Valley, Mars, Quaker, Dead Guy Ale, Sun-Maid and Pringles, among dozens of others. The new U.S. Mall builds on the success of these efforts and brings a whole new range of U.S. products to the Chinese market in categories including apparel, cosmetics, electronics and baby products, among many others.

For global suppliers, JD offers a simplified handling process for cross-border transactions, including recommendations on operational and international logistics partners that businesses can use to reduce costs and improve the efficiency of selling through the JD Worldwide platform. As global companies look to reach the rapidly growing Chinese market without the typical logistical challenges of doing business there, the JD Worldwide platform provides an easy entry point without a huge time investment.

The launch of the U.S. Mall marks the company's fifth sales channel dedicated to coveted national products, with others to follow based on customer demand in China. Online malls announced so far in 2015 cover Australia, France, Japan and Korea.

For your reference, this new segment of the Chinese e-commerce website is different than an actual shopping mall in the United States.  Here is the shopping mall definition if you are curious and wish to learn more.

We hope that you have found this news about this online retailer to be helpful.  You can find additional online fashion retailers in our retail clothing store directory section.

Punk Fashion Cheat Sheet

Did you know that not all punk is created equally?  The punk lifestyle has many variations.  Here is a little cheat sheet to help you understand some of the subtle or not so subtle differences between the various classifications.  The music and the clothing has differences.

Punk Fashion Categories
  • Anarcho Punk Fashion: Anarcho-punk fashion usually features all-black militaristic clothing.
  • Celtic Punk Fashion: Fans of Celtic punk often mix hardcore, street punk, Oi! and skinhead fashions with traditional Irish or Scottish clothing styles, including elements of highland dress.
  • Cowpunk Fashion: Fans of cowpunk base their look on Southern United States poor boys.
  • Crust Punk Fashion: creating a disheveled DIY look originating in squatting and poverty.  Typical crust punk fashion includes black or camouflage trousers or shorts (heavy work pants are popular for their durability), torn band T-shirts or hoodies, skin tight black jeans, vests and jackets (commonly black denim), bullet belts, jewelry made from hemp or found objects, and sometimes bum flaps. Many items of clothing are covered in patches and/or metal studs.
  • Dance-punk Fashion: Dance-punk fashions include day-glo colors, phat pants, glowsticks, leather studded jackets, chains and combat boots. Typical haircuts include spiky hair bleached blond, short mohawks and synthetic dreadlocks.
  • Dark cabaret & Gypsy Punk Fashion: dark cabaret and Gypsy punk often imitate the costumes of 1920s music hall, sideshow or burlesque performers.
  • Droog Punk Fashion: During the early 1980s, some street punks and Oi! skinheads adopted elements of the dress style from the film A Clockwork Orange.  See the movie and you will better understand.  Note: the movie is NOT for everyone.
  • Garage Punk Fashion: often wore secondhand clothing from the mid-late 1960s, such as velvet jackets, slim-fitting grey suits, black leather jackets, winklepickers and drainpipe jeans, in reaction to the flared trousers worn by hippies and disco fans.  The trend continues.
  • Glam Punk Fashion: Contemporary to the garage bands of the early 1970s, glam punk fashion, pioneered by bands like the New York Dolls , includes glitter, androgynous make-up, brightly dyed hair, drainpipe jeans, bright colors like electric blue.  Clothing may include, leopard print, spandex, or satin shirts as well.
  • Hardcore Punk Fashion: Personal comfort and the ability to mosh are highly influential in this style. For this reason, jewelry, spikes, chains and spiky hair are highly uncommon and discouraged in hardcore fashion. Hardcore punk music is generally faster, heavier, and more abrasive than regular punk rock.  Think Henry Rollins of Black Flag.
  • Horror Punk & Deathrock Fashion: Horror punk and deathrock fashions are similar to goth fashion. Black is the predominant shade. Deathrock and horror punk incorporate items such as fishnet stockings, corsets and elaborate make-up for men and women.
  • Pop Punk Fashion: Contemporary pop punk, or "scene fashion", sometimes overlaps with skater punk fashion.  In the mid 2000's pop punk fashion, influenced by indie rock, hip hop and emo fashions, evolved to include cartoon print hoodies, Converse shoes, keffiyehs and skinny jeans. Spiky hair was gradually replaced by skater styles with long fringes or bangs.  In 2010's pop funk fans took a turn more toward the hardcore look.
  • Psychobilly Fashion: Psychobilly fashion combines elements of punk with 1950s Greaser and British Teddy Boy fashions.  Brothel creeper shoes are frequently worn, as well as leather jackets, gas-station shirts, black or white retro T-shirts, dark-colored drape jackets and vintage motorcycle/work boots. Hair consists of a quiff, pompadour or psychobilly wedge, usually with the sides shaved into a mohawk. By the way, if you are not familiar with brothel creeper shoes, they are a style of shoe which has thick crepe soles, often in combination with suede uppers. This style of footwear became fashionable in the years following World War II, seeing resurgences of popularity at various times ever since.  (Brothel creeper are sometimes shortened to creeper)
  • Ska Punk Fashion: Ska punk fans typically dress in a style that mixes typical ska- or 2 Tone-related fashions, with various types of punk fashions, including street punk, pop punk, skate punk or hardcore punk. Braces are popular, as are Harrington jackets with Royal Stewart tartan lining, thin ties, Doc Martens, mohair suits, pork pie hats, tonik suits (especially in the early years of the 1980s ska revival), tank tops, Ben Sherman or Fred Perry polo shirts, hoodies, and checkerboard patterns. Hair is cropped very short in imitation of hardcore punk bands and early 1960s rude boys.
  • Skate Punk Fashion: Skate punk is a derivative of hardcore fashion, chosen with comfort and practicality in mind. Common skate punk clothing items include: T-shirts, flannel button-down shirts, hooded sweatshirts, webbing belts, and khaki shorts, pants or jeans.  Clothing worn by skateboarders.
  • Street punk and Oi! FashionDIY-created and modified clothing, such as ripped or stitched-together trousers or shirts, or trousers that are tightly tapered, are common. Jackets and vests often have patches or are painted with logos that express musical tastes or political views. Bullet belts and belts with metal studs are popular. Hair is often spiked and/or dyed in bright, unnatural colors and arranged into a mohawk or liberty spikes, but it is sometimes cut very short or shaved.  Oi! skinheads, sometimes known as skunks or punk-skinheads, fuse traditional skinhead style with street punk fashions. The look is characterized by Dr. Martens boots (or similar boots made by a different brand), braces, and tight rolled-up jeans, sometimes splattered with bleach.
Well, we hope that this helps you better understand punk fashion and the lifestyle behind the clothing.

You may also want to read about post-punk fashion here on our blog.  Are you into punk fashion?  Possibly, you have a mohawk.  If you know more about this subject then we do (which is very probable), please share your comments to help us all learn.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the longest running scripted show in television history we wanted to make you aware of a few exciting fashion collaborations and streetwear designs that have been developed with THE SIMPSONS.
New collaborations include Drop Dead, Eleven Paris and Uniqlo.

Combining street style and classic animation, vibrant, eye-popping collaborations from these new partners join Jeremy Scott, Shepard Fairey, Joyrich, A Bathing Ape, H&M, Topshop and Zara and continue to keep America’s favorite family in the hearts and on the shoulders of trendsetters and celebrities such as Cara Delevingne, Azealia Banks and Rita Ora.

The 90’s street style aesthetic is back in a big way, and THE SIMPSONS has lots of new culture-defining products that introduce Bart Simpson and family to the younger generation in trendy items such as varsity jackets, tees, snapbacks and fanny packs.

The world’s most iconic animated family, THE SIMPSONS, gets ready to take on the runway with all new fashion collaborations as Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and major fashion brands release unique new collections in 2014.  Fox Consumer Products announces today global trendsetting brands Drop Dead, Uniqlo and Eleven Paris are the next partners to release 2014 collections with THE SIMPSONS, joining Converse, Joyrich, A Bathing Ape and Threadless.

THE SIMPSONS has also recently introduced a global line with Japanese street style clothing company A Bathing Ape, which held preview collections and events beginning in Tokyo, followed by additional cities. More than 300 people were waiting in line for the Tokyo pop-up opening on Jan. 1, 2014, and within moments of the collection’s release, fashion bloggers and celebrities were spotted in the collection’s varsity jackets.

THE SIMPSONS also partnered with artist-sourced graphic t-shirt company Threadless.  Fox and Threadless challenged artists around the globe to pay tribute to Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and everyone else who calls Springfield home. Trendy Outfit Ideas For Raves

And while rave fashion has its trends and themes, do not forget to alter it to your liking - because after all, it is you who gets to decide what you get to wear on your body.

First and foremost, you must keep the weather in mind. What will the weather potentially be like at the time of the festival? Dry, humid, wet, rainy, cold, etc.?
