Are Disco Pants in Style?

Are you ready to disco?  If you have the proper amount of funk & soul, you may be ready.  Disco pants are now available in 23 colors from American Apparel.

Disco fashion was the rage in the late 1970s.  Discothèque-goers often wore expensive and extravagant fashions for nights out at their local disco, such as sheer, flowing Halston dresses for women and shiny polyester Qiana shirts for men with pointy collars, preferably open at the chest, often worn with double-knit polyester shirt jackets with matching trousers known as the leisure suit. Necklaces and medallions were a common fashion accessory.  If you don’t believe me, rent the movie Saturday Night Fever and see for yourself.
Disco is a genre of music containing elements of funk, soul, pop, salsa and psychedelic that was most popular in the 1970s, though it has since enjoyed brief resurgences.  The term is derived from discotheque.  Its initial audiences were club-goers from the African American, Italian American, Latino, and psychedelic communities in New York City and Philadelphia during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Disco also was a reaction against both the domination of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music by the counterculture during this period.

The first article about disco was written in September 1973 by Vince Lettie for Rolling Stone magazine.  In 1974 New York City's WPIX-FM premiered the first disco radio show.

Well-known late 1970s disco performers included ABBA, Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Trammps, Gloria Gaynor and Chic.

In the 1980’s many jokes were made about disco music, disco fashion, and the lifestyle in general.  Possible the movie Xanadu marked the end of the era.  The world appeared ready to move on and never look back as chants rang out that “disco is dead”.  Never say “never”.  Apparently, disco pants are now back at retail.  The real question, is how much are disco pants being embraced.

Do you like disco pants?  Do you think disco pants are in style now?
