Most Important Fashion Weeks

The votes are in, but not a clear winner.  Or are they clear winners?

There isn't a single "most important" fashion week, as each of the major international fashion weeks has its own unique significance and influence in the fashion industry. The importance of a fashion week can vary depending on factors such as the city's fashion heritage, the designers who showcase their collections there, and the global media attention it receives. Here are the top five international fashion weeks, along with some information about them and the types of designers typically in attendance:

Paris Fashion Week (France):

Significance: Often considered the pinnacle of international fashion weeks, Paris Fashion Week is known for its heritage of haute couture, luxury, and innovation.
Typical Attendees: Renowned fashion houses like Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Givenchy showcase their collections. Emerging and avant-garde designers also use this platform to gain recognition.

Milan Fashion Week (Italy):

Significance: Milan is a global fashion capital known for its luxury fashion, craftsmanship, and the Italian sense of style.

Typical Attendees: Italian powerhouses such as Gucci, Prada, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana are mainstays. Many influential international designers also present their collections here.

The Blonds Sparkle with Preciosa at NY Fashion Week

Preciosa returned for its third season of New York Fashion Week with the designer duo The Blonds. The nighttime fashion show inspired by Egypt took place on September 16, 2015 at MADE at Milk Studios in New York City. This very girly, sparkly show was attended by such stars as Bette Midler, Kelly Osbourne, Nigel Barker and many others celebrities.
The Blonds New York Fashion Week
Known for crafting exquisitely distinctive stage costumes, The Blonds continuously choose Preciosa for their pristine quality and extensive array of colors and shapes. The Blonds rely on Preciosa’s sparkling, lead-free crystals to enhance their luxurious, star-studded garments.

“We become so obsessed with a theme that we get entrenched in it and then we exhaust ourselves,” said David Blond. And it is easy to see with such highly embellished, crystal costumes using more than 173 thousand crystals to accentuate the Egyptian outfits fit for Cleopatra herself.

The Blonds have left their shining impression on many Hollywood performers such as Arianna Grande, Fergie, Madonna and most recently, Miley Cyrus. Pop stars love donning the iconic, attention-grabbing Preciosa crystal-encrusted bodysuits created by Phillipe and David.

The Preciosa name was introduced into the North American hemisphere in 1950, when it began bringing its vast knowledge of crystal component use in fashion and jewelry design to U.S. companies. The company is best known for its fine, lead-free MAXIMA crystals, on top of its broad range of precision-cut crystals, beads, and nacre pearls.

Kai Milla Spring-Summer 2016 Collection

The CLEAR | Kai Milla Spring-Summer 2016 Collection is set to blaze a bold new path in every modern woman’s journey. Acclaimed designer Kai Milla unveils her latest line of sophisticated separates, dresses, and a few floor-length red-carpet gowns that all strike a carefully calibrated balance between graceful movement and functional structure, between standing out and providing a coherent montage of looks that may be seamlessly blended into current wardrobes. Crafted from fine cottons, silk blends, silicone lace, organza and a revolutionary lightweight, slivery thin neoprene, the collection is dominated by muted shades of blush and gainsboro but punctuated by dashes of scarlet and cobalt. While the line undoubtedly bears what fashion observers have described as Kai’s signature design aesthetic of “sculptural fluidity”, CLEAR | Kai Milla truly marks the next chapter of her creative and as well as personal quest.

At her very core, Kai Milla is an artist first and foremost. Having earned a degree in fine arts from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in her native Washington DC, she went on to a successful stint as an art director in New York. It wasn’t until she attended a showing of Dior Couture in Paris when she felt irresistibly compelled to finally plunge into fashion. Inspired by modernist forerunners like Paul Poiret, who effectively freed women from the confines of corsetry, and Claire McCardell whose American fashions were revolutionary, Kai explored concepts of simplicity and draping without losing any of the romanticism of women’s dressing. Since the debut of her eponymous collection in 2005 during New York Fashion Week, she has been among the industry’s most esteemed designers. Her elegant designs inevitably drew A-List devotees such as first lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Academy Award winner Halle Berry, pop superstar Rihanna, and actresses Olivia Wilde, Salma Hayek and Eva Mendes. Kai also became a contributing board member for NY Fashion Week’s Harlem’s Fashion Row, the premiere organization championing the careers and success of young black designers. And much like fashion itself, Kai too inevitably continued to evolve.

As both career woman and single mother raising two boys, Kai conceived CLEAR | Kai Milla to reflect not just her own but indeed every modern woman’s evolution. “Life is in constant flux and I want my line to be just as transformative. By stripping away the superfluous distractions that already crowd our lives, I tried to capture a neoteric clarity in design,” Kai says of her line’s brand name. “These pieces were designed to bring out a woman’s sense of self even as they become an essential part of who she is.” The result is an array of choices that enable women to look confidently alluring while affording them the flexibility to go through a hectic day of activities and shifting priorities without breaking stride. Clear | Kai Milla retails from $200 to about $1,000 and will be available at major department stores and online.

Tracy Reese Fall/Winter 2015 Collection at New York Fashion Week

The award-winning, eco-friendly cult brand SheaMoisture acted as the official hair sponsor of the Tracy Reese Fall/Winter 2015 Collection at New York Fashion Week Sunday, February 15th, 2015.  Alongside lead editorial and fashion hairstylist Bok-Hee, SheaMoisture created a stunning high-fashion runway look to complement Tracy's fashion-forward collection.

Reese, a CFDA member since 1990, debuted her ultra-modern collection to a packed house at ArtBeam Studios during New York Fashion Week.  Tracy Reese is an American designer whose signature rich, daring colors and unique prints are crafted into joyful, feminine pieces for the modern woman. Tracy Reese's design philosophy is rooted in a commitment to bringing out the beauty in women of all shapes, sizes and colors. Stimulated by the world around her, Tracy Reese takes inspiration from nature, art, dance, travel and global cultures. Tracy Reese, plenty by Tracy Reese, and plenty DRESSES by Tracy Reese are sold nationwide in top department stores and specialty boutiques as well as retailers throughout Europe & Asia.

The linear, severe ponytail was one of the most dramatic looks seen on the runway this season, complementing the new-age Monster Headphones and urban warrior princess designs. "I wanted to challenge what was expected when it came to the hair.  The SheaMoisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth & Repair and Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine collections gave me the ability to create a look that had both shine and structure, plus was versatile enough to work on all of the models' hair," shared lead stylist Bok-Hee. The final creation was clean, strong and uniform, accentuating the inspirational ideas of the designer and stylist alike.

"Fashion enhances a woman's inner beauty, which is our utmost mission at SheaMoisture," says founder and CEO Richelieu Dennis. "Combining forces with an innovative partner like Tracy, who possesses such a passionate view of a woman's style and strength, is the perfect fit for our brand because she understands our vision for a better way to beautiful."

Inspired by the era of women's empowerment, Reese created a collection for the confident woman who shows power through femininity. The collection takes life from a graphic palette of Maasai reds, ebony blacks and cassava whites with the added boldness of vibrant blues. Innovative prints, inspired by traditional African motifs have been flattened and re-scaled to craft fresh, modular shapes into contemporary patterns. There is a nod to 70's tailoring and styles have been finished with macro zippers and chain detailing. Luxe faux fur, fringe and beading also add rich texture.

Since 1912, SheaMoisture has made its award-winning, shea-butter-based skin and hair care products using family recipes handed down from founder and CEO Richelieu Dennis' grandmother Sofi Tucker, who as a young mother, sold her shea butter creations to support her family in Sierra Leone. Firmly committed to "A Better Way to Beautiful," SheaMoisture products are made with natural and certified organic ingredients, not tested on animals and do not contain parabens, sulfates, phthalates, paraffin, formaldehyde, mineral oil, petroleum or DEA. SheaMoisture proudly ethically sources its shea butter from seven co-ops in Northern Ghana.
