Next Autumn, the biographic film BORG is released, a Swedish production about the tennis icon Björn Borg. All sports clothing in the film are developed by the namesake sports fashion brand, once founded by the legend himself. In relation to the film premiere, Björn Borg launches a limited edition collection in an updated vintage style inspired by the film. The name of the collection: Signature.

UAS Under Armour Sportswear Brand

Have you heard that Under Armour is planning to launch a new brand focusing on sportswear?  Yes, they appear to be launching a sub-brand for the company.

On June 2, 2016 Tim Coppens was announced to be the  Executive Creative Director of UAS™.  This is a new modern American Sportswear Brand from Under Armour.

UAS is a new label featuring fashion-driven performance sportswear.  It is designed to capture the existing opportunity of a collection that goes beyond the comforts of casual active wear and the trusted functionality of innovative athletic wear.  UAS blends these elements with Coppens’ elevated style and aesthetic direction.  The result is a fresh, new world for modern American sportswear with a nod to the classics.

Fashion designer Tim Coppens, widely known for his work on his namesake collection, is announced today as Executive Creative Director of UAS™, Under Armour Sportswear.  Coppens will oversee creative direction for the new brand from Under Armour launching in Fall 2016.

“I am thrilled to be working with Tim. I knew he was the right creative director for UAS because of his unique experience working with both performance brands and true, high-fashion labels,” said Senior Vice President of Sportswear at Under Armour, Ben Pruess. “His understanding of both worlds and ability to craft a creative expression to capture this is truly remarkable. Graphene Sportswear Collection

OK, this first paragraph may sound a bit complex.  In all fairness, it is not simple to explain the meaning of Graphene.  Although this does not start out sounding like a typical fashion blog post, I promise that it is relevant to clothing.  If you stick with it, you will get to the part about sportswear.  First, we want to give you a little bit of information about the meaning of Graphene.

Graphene is an allotrope of carbon in the form of a two-dimensional, atomic-scale, honey-comb lattice in which one atom forms each vertex.  It is the basic structural element of other allotropes, including graphite, charcoal, carbon nanotubes and fullerenes.  It can also be considered as an indefinitely large aromatic molecule, the ultimate case of the family of flat polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.  Graphene and its band structure and Dirac Cones, effect of a grid on doping Graphene has many extraordinary properties.  It is about 100 times stronger than the strongest steel with a hypothetical thickness of 3.35Å which is equal to the thickness of the graphene sheet.  It conducts heat and electricity efficiently and is nearly transparent.  Researchers have identified the bipolar transistor effect, ballistic transport of charges and large quantum oscillations in the material.

The requirement to identify increasingly higher performing technologies has given rise to a revolutionary technical solution: clothing that incorporates graphene, an innovative nanotech material derived from graphite, which, for the first time in sportswear, significantly improves performance for the benefit of athletes, professionals and sports enthusiasts.

The key characteristic of these items is their ability to act as a filter between the body and the external environment, always ensuring the ideal temperature for the wearer.   It is a smart fabric that allows tailor-made comfort.  Thanks to G+, the warmth produced by the human body is dispersed in warm climates and preserved and distributed evenly in cold climates.  In addition, because the fabrics treated with Graphene Plus are electrostatic and bacteriostatic, they are able to reduce the friction with air and water to enable top sporting performance.

The collaboration between Colmar and Directa Plus, with the ability to supply tailor-made graphene-based products in the ideal conformation for the required application, has resulted in the creation of ready-to-wear ski jackets (for men and women), ski suits, technical underwear and a polo shirt.
