Clothing Store Fulfillment Techniques

The internet has created great benefit, but it has also created great disruption for traditional brick & mortar clothing stores.  As these stores learn to react to the new world that has emerged around them, they are using new techniques to combine the efforts of their online resources with their in-store resources.  Welcome to the world of SFS & BOPUS.  Do you know what these acronyms stand for?

SFS means Ship-from-store.

BOPUS means buy online, pick up in store (yes, the acronym excludes the “i” for the word “in”)

In summary these terms refer to store fulfillment.  Clothing stores are developing new ways to fulfill orders from their existing store inventory.  This allows consumers to purchase online and allows the store to take advantage of the existing inventory in their store.  SFS and BOPUS can allow fashion retailers to sell product from their store rather than from a warehouse, DC or fulfillment center.

Ship-from-store basically means that when a consumer places an order the retailer can pull product from the hanger or store shelf and process the order from the stores existing inventory.  The store will then ship the clothes, footwear, or accessory to the consumer.

Buy online, pick up in store allows the consumer to shop online and the store will hold the merchandise for the shopper to pick up the merchandise in the store.  This has the benefit of allowing a shopper to save on freight expense.  This may also provide the added benefit of getting product faster if it is needed urgently.  This method actually provides the retailer with two options.  They can use inventory that currently exists in their store or they can ship product to the store from their warehouse.  If they have freight moving to their store from their own trucks, it may not add any freight cost bringing the merchandise from their own warehouse to the store.  The retailer really should list whether or not the units are currently in the store or if they are on the way so that the consumer knows when the merchandise if officially available for pick up.

Mom & pop stores and large retailers need to continue to adapt to new shopping methods.  This is the only way to continue as a successful apparel retailer in the modern world.  It is not enough to simply stay up to speed on the latest fashions.  Retailers also need to stay up to date on the latest trends in retailing.

Mall Clothing Store Directory

What happens when you get tired of shopping for clothing online?  Well, that would mean that it is time to venture out into the real world.  Must be time to shop at actual clothing stores.  Yes, visit an actual real building rather than shop in your own little virtual reality.

Most likely, you are already aware of your favorite local shopping destinations.  However, it is important to keep in mind that fashion companies come in and out of business from time to time.  The fashion landscape at the mall changes now and then.
Mall Clothing Stores

If you want to find out which stores are currently in your local mall, you may want to search through the clothing store directory.  You can either do this when you arrive to the mall, or you can check their online directory.  Fortunately, most of the malls are owned by large real estate companies.  Many of which are REITS (Real Estate Investment Trusts).  These companies often have directories of the stores that are within their particular mall.  Below are a few examples of clothing store directories that can be reviewed at some of the leading malls in the United States.

Fashion Gems at Garage Sales

The Hidden Gems of Garage Sales: A Thrift Shopper's Paradise

Garage sales, also known as yard sales or tag sales, have long been a cherished tradition in communities around the world. These sales involve individuals or families opening up their garages, yards, or driveways to sell a variety of items they no longer need. In recent times, garage sales have become hotspots for finding pre-owned clothing, shoes, and fashion accessories, attracting both bargain hunters and savvy entrepreneurs looking to resell these treasures. In this article, we will explore what garage sales are, their appeal for finding used fashion items, tips for successful fashion hunting, and the pros and cons of shopping for clothing at garage sales.

What Is a Garage Sale?

A garage sale is a localized event where individuals or households sell used or unwanted items, typically from their garage, front yard, or driveway. Clothing Stores for Men

Sorry gentlemen… although both men & women wear clothing, the majority of industry news and blog posts regarding fashion are regarding “women’s fashion”.  Yes, we agree that this is border line unfair to men.  However, it is important to keep in mind that women tend to shop for clothing more frequently than men.  Obviously that is a general statement and is not always the case.  Some men shop more often than women, but we can possibly agree that the majority of shopping is traditionally done by females.  This would include mothers purchasing apparel for their boys and wives purchasing clothes for their husbands.

Although style bloggers typically write news geared toward the womenswear market, we sometimes write about men’s fashion as well.  If you enjoy men’s style, the good news is that this particular post is regarding shopping for “men’s clothing”.  So let’s get to it.

Where is the best place to shop for men’s clothing?

To answer this question we should first figure out if men prefer to purchase online or in actual clothing stores.  Maybe we should take a fashion survey on this topic.  OK, since we don’t actually have a survey completed, maybe we should move onto an easier question first.

Where can we find men’s clothing stores?

This is pretty easy.  We can use Bing or Google to search for “men’s clothing stores”.  Simply toss that term into the search engine and there you go.  The search results have been getting better as years pass.  These search engines may actually track your location and give you retailers in your general vicinity.  Another way to investigate places to shop would be the directory section here on Apparel Search.  The retailer section is organized in a few ways.  You can find resources by location or store name.  We also provide a retail by category section.  In the by category section you can find clothing stores for men.

Lord & Taylor Men’s: Visit the Lord & Taylor men’s department either in a brick & mortar location or online.  If you prefer to shop on the web, the Lord & Taylor’s all-in-one menswear hub makes it easier than ever to build a wardrobe that works.  Find new suits and blazers for the office, shirts and jeans for the weekend, and bags that get you where you’re going.

Junk Food Clothing Store Venice, CA

Junk Food Clothing Co. is proud to announce the opening of its flagship store in Venice, CA for spring 2014. On May 3rd, the 2,700 sq. ft. store opened its doors on renowned Abbot Kinney Boulevard, offering its iconic premium tees for men, women and children in one location. Junk Food Clothing Co.  also carries a variety of third party brands that complement its aesthetic, including Genetic Denim, McGuire, Baggu and Ralph Lauren to name a few.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to bring the essence of Junk Food to life on Abbot Kinney. The core of our brand's DNA is to deconstruct iconic elements and inject a modern unique storyline for the consumer.   Adapting these design principles to a three dimensional space was the ultimate culmination of the evolution of the brand," says Mike Palermo, Creative Director of Junk Food Clothing Co.

Junk Food Clothing Co. sought to create a union of vintage iconic imagery, modern interpretation and surprise technological twists to paint the perfect picture in its first ever retail location.  Housed in a building from the early 1900's in a historically rich beach town, the design of the flagship space was created to reflect both the heritage of the location and the brand. A combination of natural wood tones paired with white plaster washed, antique brick walls create the feel of the quintessential modern beach house.  Mid-century modern fixtures add to the foundation of this idea as the overall muted palette juxtaposed with bright pops of color allow for the interesting lines and textures of the walls to accent the clothes.

The space, designed in partnership with Danny Gonzales (known for crafting interiors and displays for such brands as Ferragamo, Fendi, Cartier, Armani, and Bottega Veneta),  is divided in two sections: the main area in the front will highlight men's and women's apparel and accessories, while the rear section will focus on kids, bath and beauty, and eyewear in the main space.  On the opposite side of the room, handcrafted "abacus" racks suspended from the 15' ceilings with hand carved 6" beads float along the piping.  Custom lighting was created for most of the store with two pendent lights highlighting the cash wrap while Sputnik-inspired "spider web" lighting adorns the back. In the sitting area, Junk Food carried over their "abacus" idea creating glass-beaded pendants out of hand-blown glass beads silvered in stages to create a tri-tone effect.

Junk Food President Jennifer Somer gave some insight to the company's decision to open a flagship at this point in time, stating, "This store represents the exciting next step in the evolution of the Junk Food brand.  Since it's inception, Junk Food has always evoked an aspirational lifestyle rooted in classic American references.  This store gives us the opportunity to bring the brand vision to life in its entirety."

ShopKeep Your Clothing Store

There are so many items to keep track of in a clothing retail store.  ShopKeep makes managing even the largest inventories a much simpler process.  Know exactly what’s selling (and what isn’t) so every item you sell is there on merit. Check the data, fine-tune your inventory, boost sales, repeat.  With ShopKeep, you can enable triggers to alert you when items are running low in-stock.  You can update your inventory by item, en masse, or migrate thousands of items from other systems using their bulk management features.

In 2004, Jason Richelson opened a wine store in Brooklyn, New York.  Over the next few years, one store grew into four as he added a second location, a grocery store and a coffee shop, and keeping track of a seven million dollar business, 70 employees, sales and inventory became increasingly important and more complicated.  He probably would have done well opening fashion boutiques, but wine is probably the next best thing.  We won’t fault him for going into booze rather than apparel.

At the time, Jason used a traditional Windows-based point of sale system from a large software company and regularly experienced a considerable amount of technological problems. In 2008 while on vacation, the stores’ server crashed and Jason had to essentially close all of the stores indefinitely.  As soon as he returned home, Jason tried to find a cloud-based point of sale system but he couldn’t find anything.  ShopKeep was born that day to help stop this sort of issue from happening again in the future to him or to others.

Today, Jason Richelson and Norm Merritt lead a very talented group of people who work diligently to ensure that each of their merchants is well cared for. From coffee shops in Chicago and fashion boutiques in Boston to bakeries in Billings and restaurants in Riverside, ShopKeep is now used to ring up hundreds of thousands of transactions each and every day.  Information about each transaction securely stored in the cloud.

They turn iPads into cash registers by providing point of sale hardware and cloud-based software to more than 16,000 independent businesses across the United States, Guam and Canada. Founded and designed by a small business owner, ShopKeep gives customers management tools and data analytics that are usually only accessible to larger companies.

If you own a clothing store and would like your small businesses to succeed, you should investigate numerous cloud point of sale options.  Make sure ShopKeep is one that you add to your list to review.

How to Find Clothing Wholesalers

If you are looking to find clothing wholesalers, you really need to first consider the fact that there are two distinctly different elements to this term.
  1. Wholesalers selling to retailers.
  2. Wholesalers selling to consumers.
The proper meaning of the word, “wholesaler” is basically a company that sells merchandise to retail stores.  In other words, a wholesaler is an intermediary in the distribution channel that buys direct from a factory or in bulk from another resource and sells to resellers such as a clothing store rather than directly to consumers.  For example, an apparel wholesaler will purchase shirts, pants, sweaters, outerwear, or shoes from a factory and then sell those items to fashion boutiques or department stores.  In turn the retailers will then sell the product to consumers.

Over the years, the term has become rather relaxed and morphed into multiple meanings.  Essentially, some companies indicate that they are fashion wholesalers but rather than sell to shops, they sell clothes directly to the general public.  They consider themselves to be wholesalers because they sell the product at discounted prices (prices below typical retail pricing).

So, the next question is are you looking for discount fashion suppliers that sell to consumers are do you work in the fashion industry and are looking for a wholesaler or distributor to purchase product for your stores?

If you are a retailer, you can visit the clothing wholesalers section to find companies selling womenswear, menswear, and childrenswear.

You can also try FashionGo which is another place for wholesalers and retailer to meet.  FashionGo.net® provides retailers access to a vast array of wholesale fashion merchandise at their fingertips 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with just the click of a mouse.
