LondonEdge September 2015

LondonEdge September 6-8, 2015
Amongst the largest influx of new exhibitors for some time, LondonEdge is delighted to announce that two cutting edge fashion heavyweights are confirmed to debut their brand new collections for the very first time.

Exciting news from LondonEdge HQ as both Motel and Jeffery Campbell have confirmed that they will be exhibiting at the Business Design Centre to showcase their collections to buyers and businesses from all over the world. The team behind the LondonEdge, which will run from 6th-8th September 2015, are over the moon to welcome the brands to their family of exhibitors.
Returning to Islington’s BDC for their September show, LondonEdge is the planet’s only commercial platform for authentic, subculture fashion brands today. This September will be the 32nd exhibition in the series of these iconic shows that track and record the changes in youth culture, music, fashion, lifestyles and body art.

LondonEdge’s mission is to support and sustain the alternative fashion lifestyle market and provide the ultimate tradeshow platform for brands industry wide. A celebration of the cool and edgy, the show brings the industry’s attention to both emerging and established brands that push the boundaries and represent fashion conscious subcultures. From genuine vintage-inspired apparel to rainbow hair colours, fresh and innovative alternative streetwear, dramatic make-up and cutting-edge curated designers, LondonEdge never fails to deliver and they are thrilled that both Motel and Jeffery Campbell will be joining them for their September show.

Managing Director of LondonEdge, Carole Hunter is excited for the coming show:

“The past 12 months have seen us go from strength to strength. It seems we’re entering an era reminiscent of trade shows back in the early noughties. It’s exciting to have these market-leading brands recognise LondonEdge as a platform to launch their collections so we’re thrilled to have Motel and Jeffery Campbell on board and look forward to working with such established, iconic and fashion focussed brands. We believe that the inclusion of these heavyweights, alongside the battalion of other amazing collections, will attract a new breed of buyers as well as our regulars. There’s an excitement in the air surrounding this show and we cannot wait!”

Motel will be taking their place amongst other established brands from all over the world to showcase their collection of vibrant, youthful clothing. Pioneering the concept of fast fashion for the youth market, Motel sets the pace for the style hungry and offers unique and ever-evolving designs with an emphasis on quality. Debuting this season at LondonEdge, Motel will be showcasing a collection of brand new prints and designs including best-selling style and a special collaborative collection from stand VG64.

Footwear giants and youth culture fashion legends, Jeffery Campbell, are known for pushing the boundaries of modern footwear and are also confirmed to exhibit. Since launching in 2000, Jeffrey Campbell has taken the world by storm. Creators of notoriously show-stopping footwear, this season the designs have stayed true to the brands philosophy of creating shoes that capture the essence of the street. Jeffrey Campbell’s ambition to “keep making girls happy worldwide” continues on stand M197.

The next LondonEdge will run, fully loaded, from 6th-8th September 2015 at The Business Design Centre, Islington London N1. Register to visit LondonEdge at www.londonedge.com/visitors.

LondonEdge Returning to Olympia West, Kensington, London

Returning to Olympia West, Kensington, London, W14 from 7th-9th February 2016, LondonEdge promise a jam packed weekend of cutting edge fashion, a new layout and a freshly branded aesthetic. To mark their comeback, LondonEdge introduces their second edition of their magazine, a preview of what is to come from the epicentre of youth subculture.
LondonEdge February 2016 Dates
Following the success of their first magazine which launched as a sneaky peek at the AW15 show back in September, LondonEdge are launching a bumper issue to share the thrills and spills of their upcoming exhibition with their loyal tribe of buyers, bloggers and followers. Spotlighting key brands to the show this season, such as Banned, Disturbia, Hell Bunny, Seamstress of Bloomsbury, The Ragged Priest, Freddie’s of Pinewood and Killstar, lifestyle fashion retailers are treated to a glimpse of their upcoming collections, their heritage and a little bit about the personality behind the brands. Giving the tribe an insight into the show, brand spotlights, photo-shoots, trend highlights and fantastic interviews from the likes of Sophie Hannah Richardson, Olivia Emily and illustrator Marylou Faure, the magazine is created with retailers in mind to tantalise their buying taste buds!

Because the LondonEdge magazine gives buyers a little advanced insight into what to expect, they can better plan their trip. With a wealth of experience in the fashion trade field, the team at LondonEdge know that the more information that the buyers can access prior to the show, the more successful their visit. Not only that but the magazine offers an exclusive look at the shows latest photographic shoots which include a seductive take on the huge retro trend with ‘Dark and Divine’ plus a conflicted presentation of the angst and the cute in ‘Dark Neo v Cyber Cute – Who do you think you are?’

Managing Director of LondonEdge Carole Hunter cannot wait to share the magazine with the retail and exhibiting audience:

“We love it when a plan comes together. Even after 17 years here at LondonEdge we’re still excited to share the amazing collections, creativity and diversity available at the show. Season after season our exhibitors deliver new lifestyle collections that make it easy to buy and the magazine gets us ahead of the game. One thing is for sure – LondonEdge is never, ever boring!”

The next LondonEdge rocks up from 7th-9th February 2016 at Olympia West, Kensington, London W14. Register to visit LondonEdge at www.londonedge.com/visitors.

Figures showed that the attendance was made-up of 60% visitors from the UK and 40% overseas. House of Edge LondonEdge 36

48 hours of anarchy, fashion and mayhem from 3rd- 4th September as the Business Design Centre was transformed into an alternative fashion mecca for LondonEdge. The team positively rocked their 36th show delivering a bevvy of new exhibitors, seminars and industry insights, mesmerising catwalk shows and an unforgettable after-show party alongside countless other extra-curricular activity. Showcasing brands such as T.U.K, Collectif and Sourpuss, the list of exhibitors was packed with newly discovered glory.

In true LondonEdge spirit, the show kicked off with a seminar on the history of tattoo by expert speaker Dr. Matt Lodder. He took the audience through 150++ years of tattooing and, presenting to a full-house, Matt set the bar for the show’s fascinating seminar programme.

The rest of the line-up did not disappoint, closely followed by seminars by social media, blogging and vintage guru Kate Beavis and author Fiona Cartledge who took audiences back to the heyday of the 90s. Designed to give attendees the full 360˚ experience, a trip to this trade show certainly gave visitors much more than a look into the future season’s collections.

LondonEdge The New Alternative September 2014

Following a hugely successful first show in Germany’s fashion capital, the excitement builds for the shows' 30th UK edition. Already lining up to be one of the most exciting shows to date, the next edition of LondonEdge will take place at Islington’s Business Design Centre from 7th - 9th September.

As the street fashion sector begins its countdown to one of the most important dates on the calendar, we take the opportunity to recap on BerlinEdge and it’s triumphant entry onto the European diary

The BerlinEdge showcased over 50 collections at the lavish Adagio venue during Berlin’s Fashion Week, and welcomed businesses from all over the world through it’s doors. Although just a glimmer of the main LondonEdge event in September, BerlinEdge was every bit the success as Director Carole Hunter explains.

"Along with 35 of our key exhibitors, we took a leap of faith across the channel to launch our very first European satellite show and enjoyed a hugely positive experience from start to finish. Our intention was to attract buyers who'd never visited us in London and, in doing so, deliver entirely new business to our exhibiting contingent. Not only did we almost double the expected attendance but, of the buyers who attended, approximately 75% had never visited us in London. We're delighted to say that the 2014 Berlin mission was accomplished and we're looking forward to 2015."

With the focus shifting back to London, a new look and a new venue; the 30th edition of LondonEdge demands the industry to take a look at the event with fresh eyes.

A stripped back logo and clean-cut aesthetic defines the show as a versatile platform for a wide range of exhibitors to present their collections. What is being described as the “The New Alternative” is a hugely varied compilation of lifestyle brands, new designers, street fashion labels and licensed merchandise from around the globe. Showcasing apparel, footwear and accessories, this highly commercial offering makes LondonEdge the number one destination for the youth market, retro and vintage brands, unique designers and music-led fashion

In reaching it’s 30th season, LondonEdge continues to bring another dimension to the fashion trade show scene that not only defies recession, but is embracing a new generation of fashion retail. This unmissable show presents fertile ground where buyers from around the world can discover the next era of subcultures, fashion trends and emerging markets cultivated on the blogs and social networks of the worldwide web.

LondonEdge throws open it’s doors on Sunday the 7th of September and runs until Tuesday the 9th of September at The Business Design Centre, Upper Street, London N1 0QH.

4pm: Phil Strongman Band Manager, Music Journalist, Book Author, Environmentalist & Film-Maker.
Topic: ANARCHY IN FASHION
Phil started work in fashion at 17, as a Saturday boy who then became a designer for seminal 'street couture' boutique ACME ATTRACTIONS, a King's Road basement managed by DON LETTS (film-maker, BBC Radio 6 DJ) and JEANETTE LEE (now CEO at ROUGH TRADE). ACME's customers included JOE STRUMMER of THE CLASH, BOB MARLEY, SID VICIOUS, NICK LOWE, CHRISSIE HYNDE, BILLY IDOL, PAUL GORMAN, CHRIS SULLIVAN and future members of THE DAMNED, PiL etc. After helping launch BOY (aka BOY LONDON) at the height of 1977's punk explosion, Phil went on to supply designs to PX, FANS, OFFICE, ROCK A CHA & SIGN OF THE TIMES. Amongst his friends and acquaintances during this time were all the major music groups as well as VIVIENNE WESTWOOD, MALCOLM McLAREN, BOY GEORGE, ADAM ANT, LLOYD JOHNSON and Acme/BOY founders STEPH RAYNER and JOHN KRIVINE. Since the early 80s Phil has been a band manager, music journalist, book author, environmentalist and film-maker. His music and fashion-related books include PRETTY VACANT, METAL BOX, COCAINE AND JOHN LENNON: LIFE, TIMES AND ASSASSINATION. He currently runs the PS ACME GALLERY in West Dalston.
Phil's forthcoming feature length film ANARCHY! McLAREN WESTWOOD GANG has been described as 'the Apocalypse Now of art documentaries' and concerns ‘sex, drugs, rock’n’roll, fashion, crime, politics. The film will be screened this February at the Regents Street Cinema – for more details go to www.regentstreetcinema.com.
The buzz punk created is one of massive influence – look in the pre-punk 1970s fashion magazines for a line about the ‘Little Black Dress’, I couldn’t find one. It had been almost completely forgotten. Dark, stark clothing came back with Punk and has swung in and out of vogue ever since. Look in the same magazines for pictures of narrow slacks or high waist peg trousers or even tight drainpipe jeans – in almost every case, there aren’t any. Or look in the pre-punk music press for successful independent labels, there’s barely one…
From music to journalism to hair to make-up to shoes to clothes to cultural attitudes - everything was changed by punk. And those involved in Punk were to be key figures in all that followed - from New Wave to Power Pop to Post-Punk to Gothic to New Romanticism to Rockabilly, 2-Tone, Warehouse, Acid House, Rave, Grunge, Britpop and Indie. Many of punk’s leading lights - from McLaren and Westwood to Boy George, Adam Ant, Kevin Rowlands, Julie Burchill, Tony Parsons and Sting – then went on to dominate the 80s and 90s … and 40 years later we have still have punk attitudes and punk fashion and cyber-punk and punk ale and punk films and even golf punk.
But why? What made that movement so creative and dynamic? And so influential? That’s what is to be discussed in Anarchy In Fashion; how a gang of ‘isolated non-conformists’ took the music and fashion world by storm, created the biggest mass art movement since Dada and – for a time – changed everything. Why did that happen then…and are there any lessons for today?

Comments from Matt Law: Show Director:

“ The Ledge has continued to grow season on season and boasts a platform of solid action sports and streetwear brands. The Ledge is backed once again by an array of leading publications including Factory Media, which is Europe’s leading action sports publishing house. I feel that this kind of direct support really helps to legitimise what Ledge is about and shows its true core roots that we focus on within the industry from the ground up. We continually listen to our supporting brands and this September we have once again adapted the show to suit the needs of the industry. This is what The Ledge is really about, we are not just a start up show to try and manufacture a show within an industry we do not understand or claim to invent the wheel like so many before and now. We have proven over the last two years that we have a solid foundation and proven success buy the way of growth and the key brands involved. We are here to support the industry, listen to the needs of the brands and adapt at short notice to deliver, which is why The Ledge has been regarded as the only show of its kind in the UK that ticks all the boxes. No one else can really claim to do what we do For Our Industry, By Our Industry. Supporting Our Industry. We have the right industry people with over 20 years experience involved behind the scenes, great brands onboard and great industry and publication support. We are legit, which is what counts in todays market, as you know what you are getting. “
