SwampButt Underwear Asks What Season Is It?

It is not fall, but advertising purchased in the tens of millions of dollars would have Americans believe otherwise. A disconnect between calendars, thermometers and so called ‘fall back to school’ sales did not escape the makers of SwampButt Underwear’s™ notice (www.swampbutt.com). What happened and how did this revelation appear to SwampButt Underwear and what does it portend for the coming school year? Don’t get fooled again.

The So Called ‘Fall’ Back To School Sale

The makers of SwampButt Underwear wanted to have a ‘fall back to school’ sale for their popular brand of performance underwear, but there were several things that seemed to both work against and confuse them. Among these were when school starts, and what season is this? Those ads declared ‘fall back to school’ but is it really fall? “School does not start in fall, it starts during the month of August,” said corporate spokesman and resident phenologist Nick Heraldson. “This was our first clue. There was a disconnect between the calendar, the thermometer and the start of school and we wanted to know why; who benefited and what was the motivation behind this deception.” Was there a possible conspiracy that tied the winter clothing and fall leaf removal industries to back to school sales?

HanesBrands to Acquire Pacific Brands

HanesBrands, a leading worldwide marketer of underwear, intimate apparel and activewear, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Pacific Brands Limited, the leading underwear and intimate apparel company in Australia.

The acquisition would be Hanes’ sixth in the past three years and would add Australia and New Zealand to the list of countries where the company holds the No. 1 or No. 2 market share position for underwear, intimate apparel or hosiery. The countries include the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and South Africa.

HanesBrands projects that under its ownership publicly traded Pacific Brands (ASX: PBG) would have calendar 2016 net sales in its core Underwear and Sheridan businesses of approximately AUD800 million (US$600 million) and adjusted operating profit of AUD75 million (US$56 million). The Melbourne-based company, which has a June fiscal year end, sells primarily in Australia with some distribution in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Asia.

“Pacific Brands is a natural addition to the HanesBrands portfolio with its strong market-leading brands that will be complemented by our global supply chain,” Hanes Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard A. Noll said. “In the span of 10 years, we have transformed the company through acquisitions and our Innovate-to-Elevate initiatives. We have tripled operating profits and expanded from a $4 billion company concentrated in the United States to a $7 billion global underwear and activewear powerhouse spanning the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific. This foundation will serve as a catalyst for even further growth and value creation for the foreseeable future.”

Pacific Brands has three business units – Underwear, Sheridan, and Tontine & Dunlop. The company has undergone significant restructuring over the past two years to streamline its portfolio to focus on the core Underwear and Sheridan businesses.

Pacific Brands’ restructuring and focus on Underwear and Sheridan has resulted in significant sales and profit growth.  Based on fiscal 2016 expectations, the core businesses have a combined two-year compound annual sales growth rate of approximately 8 percent.

Of the core business, Underwear accounts for three-fourths of sales and includes underwear, bras, socks, hosiery, babywear and outerwear. The Underwear group is successfully executing growth strategies to reshape its wholesale business, expand distribution, and increase retail and online sales. The group operates more than 150 company retail stores and retailer shop-in-shops.

Underwear has a three-year compound annual sales growth rate of 7 percent. The company’s biggest Underwear brand is the fast-growing Bonds, an iconic century-old brand that holds the No. 1 market share for men’s underwear, women’s underwear, children’s underwear, babywear and socks, as well as the No. 3 position in bras. In addition, the Berlei brand of premium bras sold in department stores is No. 2 in overall bra market share and No.1 in sports bras.

The acquisition is expected to result in significant savings through the use of Hanes’ large-scale, low-cost global supply chain. Pacific Brands sources the significant majority of its underwear and intimate apparel production from third-party manufacturers, while Hanes relies primarily on company-owned manufacturing. The acquisition also would add to Hanes’ global product design, development and innovation capabilities that span the Americas, Europe and the Pacific Rim.

The Sheridan business, which accounts for a quarter of the core business, has benefited from newly combined infrastructure with the Underwear group.  Sheridan markets luxury linens, towels, bedding accessories, and loungewear in the retail and wholesale channels and has recently launched babywear.

In the press release it mentions that Hanes will seek to retain the Pacific Brands’ senior management team to run the business after the acquisition.

The definitive purchase agreement has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies. The acquisition, which is subject to Pacific Brands shareholder approval and other customary closing conditions, is expected to close in the third quarter of 2016. Goldman, Sachs & Co. is serving as exclusive financial advisor to Hanes, while Baker & McKenzie is serving as legal counsel.

Björn Borg “nude” underwear for all skin tones

March 21, 2016 sports fashion brand Björn Borg introduced the Skin Collection; skin toned underwear for everyone. The collection is deliberately launched on the United Nation’s Racial Discrimination Day, as a tribute to human rights and equality for all.
So-called “nude” underwear traditionally only caters to white skinned individuals, offered in tones like beige or blush, despite the fact that an 84% majority of the world’s population has a skin tone other than the standard “nude” colour. To put the light on this inequality, Björn Borg introduces the Skin Collection – an underwear line in six shades of human, following the Fitzpatrick skin scale*.
Nude Underwear Skin Shades
– Nude is not a colour; it’s a concept that everybody should have the right to enjoy. We call it six shades of human and the reason to our launch on the UN Racial Discrimination Day is that the political climate in Europe has been very tough as of late and it is time to show colour. This is our contribution to that debate, comments Björn Borg Marketing Director, Jonas Lindberg Nyvang.

The skin collection comes in a hotpant for her and short shorts for him and is made from a fresh microfibre material to maintain high breathability and comfortable fit.

The collection retails at €32.95 through selected retail and through the Björn Borg web shop, www.bjornborg.com.

The Fitzpatrick skin scale is a numerical classification schema for human skin color. It was developed in 1975 by Thomas B. Fitzpatrick, a Harvard dermatologist, as a way to classify the typical response of different types of skin to ultraviolet (UV) light. There are six levels in the Fitzpatrick scale, ranging from Type I (which is very light, always burns in direct sunlight and never tans), to type VI (which is deeply pigmented dark brown or black and never burns).

Human skin pigmentation evolved primarily to regulate the amount of ultraviolet radiation penetrating the skin, a fact that the so-called Fitzpatrick skin scale* rests upon. The Fitzpatrick scale is a classification on typical response of different types of skin to ultraviolet radiation and covers six major skin tones; the very same that are offered through the new Björn Borg skin collection.

ABOUT SLANKY

Founder, Karin Nieuwoudt was dressing to attend a high-end Dallas trade event. Knowing that convention centers usually have the air-conditioning on full blast, Karin had a big problem: How could she maintain her sexy, polished appearance and not spend the day freezing or have to cover up with a bulky jacket? With a pair of opaque tights, some scissors, and a needle and thread, Karin fashioned the first Slanky there on the spot when the idea for Slanky was born.

Since then, Karin has developed a unique product that is both functional and sexy to help all women feel and look their best.

About Men's Underwear

What is that under your pants?

Men's underwear is important for holding a mans you know what in place and covering his rear end.

Under garments come in various colors, shapes, and sizes.  Pardon the pun, but below is a "brief" introduction to the clothing guys wear under their pants.

Brief
2Xist
Briefs This classic cut fits close to the body and offers comfort and just the right amount of coverage. Briefs were first sold on January 19, 1935 by Coopers, Inc., in Chicago, Illinois at Marshall Field's department store. They dubbed the new undergarment the "Jockey" because it offered a similar degree of support as the jockstrap (one style of which is also called jock brief or support briefs). The designer of the new style was reportedly inspired by a postcard he had received from a friend visiting the French Riviera depicting a man in a very short, form-fitting bathing suit.  In North America, "Jockey shorts" or "Jockeys" became an often used generic term for men's briefs. More recently, "tighty-whiteys" has become a commonly used nickname for briefs.  In the case of men's underwear, briefs, unlike boxer shorts, hold the wearer's (you know what) in a relatively fixed position, which make briefs a popular underwear choice for men who are participating in athletic activities or who feel they need more support than loose-fitting underwear can provide.  Athletes may prefer briefs over because boxers often ride up the body when the wearer is running.

Boxers
Boxer shorts (also known as simply boxers) are a type of undergarment typically worn by men. The term has been used in English since 1944 for all-around-elastic shorts, so named after the shorts worn by boxers, for whom unhindered leg movement ("footwork") is very important.  Most boxer shorts have a fly in front. Boxer shorts manufacturers have a couple of methods of closing the fly: metal snaps or a button or two. However, many boxer shorts on the market do not need a fastening mechanism to close up the fly as the fabric is cut and the shorts are designed to sufficiently overlap and fully cover the opening. This is commonly known as an open fly design.  Boxer shorts are available in white and solid colors including pastels, and come in a variety of patterns and prints as well; Traditional patterns include "geometrics" (small repeating geometric designs), plaids and vertical stripes. Additionally, there are innumerable "novelty" boxer short patterns. Boxer shorts are produced using various fabrics including all cotton, cotton/polyester blends, jersey knits and silk.

Boxer Brief
Polo Boxer Brief
Boxer Briefs boxer briefs offer length with fit that’s a little roomier than trunks, but not as roomy as boxer shorts.  Boxer briefs are sort of a hybrid between briefs and boxers.  They offer more coverage than briefs and offer more support than boxers.  Boxer briefs (or tight boxers) are a hybrid type of men's undergarment which are long in the leg, like boxer shorts but tighter-fitting, like briefs. Depending on the manufacturer, boxer briefs may also be spelled as one word: boxerbriefs. They are sometimes called "trunks" in the United Kingdom and Australia.  It is rumored that boxer briefs were pioneered by designer John Varvatos during his 1990–1995 stint at Calvin Klein as head of menswear design.  However, we are not certain that he created the first pair.  While some may find regular briefs too restrictive, others may find boxer shorts too loose. A pouch or "over sized" pouch may be built in to add space and position the the your know what with more room. Boxer briefs are commonly used in athletics instead of, or in addition to a jockstrap, but are common for everyday usage as well. The boxer brief design provides form-fitting coverage for the midsection from the waist to the thighs and are worn on the waist. They are usually made of a combination of cotton and spandex or a soft, woven flannel material. Boxer brief designs can have either a keyhole fly, button (snap) front, pouch, or no fly at all. The waistband is usually a separate band of elastic material, often in a contrasting color to the cotton or flannel material that comprises the rest of the boxer briefs.

Yes, men also wear bikini underwear, g-strings, and thongs.

If you are interested in shopping for men's underwear you can find men's underwear stores in the fashion retailer section here on Apparel Search.

When purchasing underwear, keep in mind the fabrication.  Woven fabric does not offer as much stretch as knit fabrics.

You may want to also check the men's underwear store that we created using product from Amazon.

You can shop for men's underwear at stores such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and even Walmart.

Today, there are many options in underwear available to men. These include:
  • boxer style (at or near true waist, leg sections extending to thighs)
    • woven boxers (traditional)
    • knit boxers (like traditional but with more fabric give; knit has stretch)
    • boxer briefs (also knit; more form-fitting)
    • pouch boxer briefs (boxer briefs but with pouch for the wearers balls rather than access flap)
    • athletic-style (skin-tight, usually with no access pouch or flap; like short tights; a variety also is bike shorts)
  • jockey shorts or brief (knit fabric, with access pouch or flap; usually at or near true waist, leg bands at tops of thighs)
    • traditional jockey shorts (vertical flap)
    • diagonal flap jockey shorts
    • pouch jockey shorts
    • low-cut jockey shorts
  • bikini briefs (usually lower than true waist, often at hips, usually no access pouch or flap, legs bands at tops of thighs)
    • high-side bikini briefs
    • low-side bikini briefs
    • string bikini briefs (the front and rear sections meet in the crotch but not at the waistband, with no fabric on the side of the legs)
  • g-string types (with a front pouch for the private parts but no rear coverage)
    • thongs (with a strap securing the pouch at the bottom rear, passing up the crack between the buttocks to the waistband)
    • athletic supporters, also known as jockstraps (with two straps securing the pouch at the bottom rear, passing around the bases of the buttocks up to the waistband at the sides)
    • strapless pouches (with a front pouch and waistband only, no securing straps)
There are also many types of long underwear, union suits, and other variations of men's underwear.

Men's underwear brands include JockeyHanesFruit of the Loom, Calvin Klein, 2xist, BVD, and the list goes on and on.

Dwyane Wade Naked Brand Campaign

Wade Enterprises, LLC and Naked Brand Group, Inc. on June 18, 2015 announced a partnership between NBA Miami HEAT star Dwyane Wade and Naked, the innovative inner fashion and lifestyle brand. The 3-time NBA Champion, 11-time All Star and Olympic Gold Medalist will spearhead Naked's "Role Models" campaign, join the Company's Advisory Board and serve as Creative Director for a signature collection of innerwear set to launch in 2016.

One of Wade's first initiatives with Naked will be to help launch Naked's "Role Models" campaign during summer 2015. "Naked is all about people writing their own story and being free to be themselves. We plan to build awareness and enthusiasm for Naked and our brand philosophy by sharing and celebrating the stories of men and women who live inspiring and authentic lives," says Joel Primus, Founder and President of Naked. "As a father, athlete and champion, whose personal motto is 'Make Your Own Way,' Dwyane is a true role model and the perfect partner for Naked."

In 2016, Naked and Wade will launch a Wade signature collection of innerwear for men and boys.  In his role as Creative Director for this product line, Wade will work closely with Carole Hochman and her design and development team to create a collection with broad global consumer appeal. "I am eager to work with Naked to design a collection that offers standout style and comfort," said Wade.

Wade's collaboration and endorsement agreement with Naked, which includes license to Dwyane Wade's name, image and other intellectual property, is multi-year, worldwide and exclusive in the category of Innerwear (underwear, undershirts, loungewear, sleepwear and robes).

As part of this collaboration, Wade will also join Naked's advisory board, specifically focusing on helping Naked build brand awareness and achieve business goals. In this capacity, Wade has agreed to share his expertise and breadth of experience as it pertains to the growth of the Company.

Naked was founded on one basic desire, to create a new standard for how products worn close to the skin fit, feel and function.  Naked has a strong and growing retail footprint for its innovative and luxurious men's innerwear products in some of the best online and department stores in North America. In 2014, renowned designer and sleepwear pioneer, Carole Hochman, joined Naked as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Creative Officer and Chairwoman with the goal of growing Naked into a global lifestyle brand. Naked is now headquartered in New York City, has expanded its men's collections and has developed amazing women's intimate apparel, sleepwear and loungewear collections – the kind of extraordinary products for which Carole Hochman has been admired for years. The first of these women's collections will be available online and at retail during 2015. In the future, Naked plans to expand into other apparel and product categories that can exemplify the mission of the brand, such as activewear, swimwear, sportswear and more.

Dwyane Wade is a three-time NBA Champion (2006, 2012, 2013) and eleven-time All-Star selection with the Miami HEAT. In 2006, three years after first joining the HEAT as the No. 5 overall Draft pick, he led the team to Miami's first-ever NBA Championship and was named MVP of the Finals. In 2012 and 2013, Dwyane won his second and third NBA Championships. In 2004, he created the Wade's World Foundation, which provides support to various educational, health and family service programs, in particular those that benefit underserved communities in Miami and his hometown of Chicago. In 2011, Wade was appointed to President Obama's Fatherhood Task Force.
